  1. 11. Transcription, splicing and genetic structure within the human endogenous retroviral HERV-H family

    Författare :Mats Lindeskog; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; immunosuppressive envelope protein; RNA splicing; Human endogenous retrovirus; transcription; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) are remains of ancient retroviral infections of the germ line and constitute as much as 3 % of the human genome. HERVs are genetic elements that potentially may provide important biological functions by several different mechanisms. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Mutation profile at the hprt locus in T-cells of non-smoking males

    Författare :Anne-May Österholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :human T-cells; hprt mutation; in vivo; deletion; splicing; base substitution;

    Sammanfattning : Extensive studies have been done on mutations in several marker genes in order to predict health consequences such as carcinogenesis. However, more information about mutations arising in vivo in somatic cells is needed to understand the relationship between the different factors involved in mutagenesis such as DNA damage, DNA repair capacity and individual susceptibility, and to elucidate the influence of endogenous mechanisms and environmental exposures. 3. 13. Genomics of Plasmodiophora brassicae

    Författare :Suzana Stjelja Arvelius; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Plasmodiophora brassicae is a soil-borne pathogen that infects roots of plants in Brassicaceae and causes enlarged roots or clubs known as the clubroot disease. Details of its complex life cycle and particularly the molecular basis of its strategies to master defenses and alter metabolism of plant hosts are still largely unknown. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Mining DNA elements involved in targeting of chromatin modifiers

    Författare :Philge Philip; Per Stenberg; Jan Larsson; Stein Aerts; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nucleosome; histone; chromatin; chromatin modifiers; targeting; DNA motifs; protein factors; MSL; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: In all higher organisms, the nuclear DNA is condensed into nucleosomes that consist of DNA wrapped around a core of highly conserved histone proteins. DNA bound to histones and other structural proteins form the chromatin. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Influence of serotonin-related genes on behavior and body weight

    Författare :Jessica Bah Rösman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Serotonin; Genes; anorexia nervosa; premenstrual dysforia; body weight; suicide; polymorphism; HTR2C; SLC6A4; GATA2; HTR3B;

    Sammanfattning : Rationale: The neurotransmitter serotonin has been implicated in the regulation of normal behaviors, including food intake, and attributed importance for a variety of common psychiatric conditions, including major depression, suicidal behavior, eating disorders and premenstrual dysphoria. The purpose of these studies was to explore the possible influence of genetic variation in serotonin-related genes on a) body weight, b) binding capacity of the serotonin transporter in the brain of suicide attempters and c) a disorder for which numerous findings suggest serotonin to play a key role, i.
