1. Strategies for remediation of very large deposits of mine waste : the Aitik mine, Northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : The Aitik mine, near Gällivare in Sweden, is the largest copper mine in Europe with an annual production exceeding 18 Mt of ore. After processing of the ore the residual waste material, so called tailings, are deposited in a tailings pond. In addition, 15 - 25 Mt of barren waste rock is mined annually in order to provide access to the ore. LÄS MER
2. Greenland's future : narratives of natural resource development in the 1900s until the 1960s
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis identifies and analyzes narratives of Greenland's future that emerged in the context of developing and modernizing the dependency's natural resources industries in the 1900s until the 1960s. After almost two centuries of Danish colonial rule, the turn of the 20th century witnessed a profound change in Greenland's governance. LÄS MER
3. Stability of tailings dams : focus on water cover closure
Sammanfattning : Mining activities have been ongoing for thousands of years within Sweden. As the results of previous activities are evident today, i.e. for example acid mine drainage (AMD), the focus and interest on closure and remediation of mine sites and tailings storage facilities (TSFs) has increased. 4. Geochemical and Mineralogical Characterization of Waste Rocks for Preliminary Mine Drainage Quality Prediction
Sammanfattning : Acid or neutral rock drainage (ARD or NRD) with its attendant elevated concentrations of harmful elements presents one of the main challenges related to the management of waste rocks. Low-quality drainage is a particular issue with respect to mineral deposits containing sulfide minerals, of which pyrite and pyrrhotite are especially prone to produce acidic drainage when exposed to oxygen and water. 5. Den obefintliga framtiden : en studie om en nedläggningshotad gruvby i fjällen
Sammanfattning : Klimpfjäll is a mountain village in the south of Lappland. In the middle of the 1970's a mine was set up in Stekenjokk about 20 km west of Klimpfjäll. A new housing estate was built, as an extension of Klimpfjäll, to accommodate the miners (about 170 people) and their families. LÄS MER
