Sammanfattning : Trigger finger is one of the most common hand conditions, with a prevalence of almost 3%. The aetiology remains unclear even though many causes have been suggested. The prevailing paradigm is that the pathogenesis of trigger finger is ascribed to primary changes in the first fibrous condensation of the tendon sheath (A1-pulley). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Curing Multiple Sclerosis : How to do it and how to prove it

Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a potentially curative treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS) with now more than 600 documented cases in the medical literature. Long-term remission can be achieved with this therapy, but when is it justified to claim that a patient is cured from MS? In attempt to answer this question, the outcome of the Swedish patients is described, mechanisms behind the therapeutic effect are discussed and new tools for demonstration of absence of disease have been developed. Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating disease that affects people in their late mid-life, with fatal outcome usually within a few years. The progressive degeneration of neurons responsible for muscle movement (motor neurons) throughout the central nervous system (CNS) leads to muscle wasting and paralysis, and eventually affects respiratory function. Sammanfattning : An important cause of death among patients undergoing surgery of the abdominal aorta is intestinal ischaemia. In the Swedish Vascular Registry 2930 aortoiliac operations were identified. The complication was studied in a combined cohort and case-control study, and multivariate analysis performed. The incidence of intestinal ischaemia was 2. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Methodological aspects and usefulness of Quantitative Sensory Testing in early small fiber polyneuropathy : a clinical study in Swedish hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis patients

Författare :Victoria Heldestad; Erik Nordh; Ole Suhr; Göran Solders; Umeå universitet; []

Sammanfattning : Generalised polyneuropathy (PNP) is a common cause to neurological impairment, and may be an early symptom of a severe systemic disease. One such illness is hereditary transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis (ATTR), a progressive fatal disorder caused by a mutation on the TTR gene. LÄS MER
