  1. 1. Cardiac effects of non-adrenergic inotropic drugs : clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Birger Axelsson; Michael Haney; Hans Tydén; Anil Gupta; Patrick Wouters; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Milrinone; levosimendan; vein graft flow; myocardial ischemia; protection; inotropy; diastole; Anaesthesiology; anestesiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Myocardial failure and dysfunction is not uncommon during critical illness and following cardiac surgery. For optimal treatment, a better understanding of the effects of inotropic drugs is needed. In this thesis, two non-adrenergic mediated inotropes, milrinone and levosimendan were studied in different models of myocardial dysfunction. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers

    Författare :Anna Lundström; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Håkan Eliasson; Jacob Tfelt-Hansen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; pediatrics; exercise; Holter; water immersion; arrhythmia; clinical physiology; ECG; heart rate variability; heart rate response; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning; kardiologi; Cardiology; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis. 3. 3. Experimental acute otitis media : aspects on treatment, protection and structural changes

    Författare :Eva Westman; Ann Hermansson; Sten Hellström; Åsa Melhus; Bengt Carlsöö; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; acute otitis media; penicillins; rat; treatment; protection; beta-lactamase; Moraxella catarrhalis; Haemophilus influenzae; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute otitis media (AOM) is a common disease in childhood and is one of the most common causes for outpatient antibiotic treatment. The major aetiological agents of AOM have varied over the decades. Now the three most common pathogens are Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial meningitis, one of the most severe infections a child can contract, can be caused by several different strains of bacteria. Most commonly, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), Streptococcus pneumoniae and Neisseria meningitidis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Development and evaluation of new generation vaccines against bovine respiratory syncytial virus

    Författare :Krister Blodörn; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) is a major cause of respiratory disease in cattle worldwide. Improved BRSV vaccines are needed, with better efficacy and longer duration of protection, in particular when used in calves with specific maternally derived antibodies (MDA). LÄS MER
