1. Magnetic resonance imaging, electroneurographic, and clinical findings in Bell's palsy
Sammanfattning : Seventy-two patients were examined in order to learn more about the pathophysiology of Bell's palsy and to assess the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as well as electroneurographic and clinical tests in predicting the outcome in patients with this disease. In 12 of 20 patients (60%) an increased signal intensity in the paranasal sinuses was evident on T2-weighted MRI scans in the early stage of palsy, and in six of the positive patients the high signal intensity had disappeared by the time of the follow-up examination. 2. Medical Treatment and Grading of Bell's Palsy
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to evaluate the effect of prednisolone and valaciclovir in a large number of Bell's palsy patients. The incidence and intensity of pain around the ear, in the face or in the neck during the first two months of palsy, and its prognostic value, was also assessed. LÄS MER
3. Effects of nonlinear noise reduction algorithms on image quality in computed tomography systems. Evaluations using human observers and methods for assessing distortion
Sammanfattning : Many conventional radiological examinations have during the past decades been replaced by examinations performed on computed tomography (CT) systems. One reason is that a CT system, in contrast to a conventional X-ray system, depicts slices of the body so that anatomical structures to a lesser extent risk to obscure the potential pathology. 4. Neuropathological findings and staging in dementia
Sammanfattning : Dementia is a clinical syndrome with the development of impairment in multiple cognitive functions (including memory), severe enough to interfere with activities of daily living, as the main symptom. There are a large number of disorders that can lead to dementia, and neuropathological examination after death is necessary to determine the underlying cause with certainty. LÄS MER
5. Development and clinical significance of side bones in cold-blooded trotters
Sammanfattning : Ossification of ungular cartilages (OUC) is apparent on fossil P3 bones and seems to be as old as the history of Equus. OUC has been scientifically studied at least since the 18th century. LÄS MER
