  1. 1. Type 1 diabetes in children with non-Swedish background : epidemiology and clinical outcome

    Författare :Ulf Söderström; Jan Åman; Ulf Samuelsson; Anders Hjern; Jannet Svensson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; HbA1c; children; adolescents; ethnicity; epidemiology; immigration; adoption; socio-demographic; registers; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Sweden holds third place of diabetes incidence in young people after Finland and Sardinia. One fifth of the population is nowadays of foreign descent. We have a substantial number of immigrants from countries where the risk for T1D is considerably lower. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Disease

    Författare :Markus Stenemo; Johan Ärnlöv; Rikard Landberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomarkers; ischemic stroke; heart failure; omics; proteomics; metabolomics; epidemiology; risk marker; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality, with increasing prevalence worldwide.Identification of risk markers may enable improved prevention by targeting high-risk individuals, earlier disease diagnosis and treatment, as well as stratification of disease subtypes with different treatment options, thereby minimizing side effects while increasing success rates. 3. 3. Epidemiology of Physical Activity and Fragility Fractures

    Författare :Karl Stattin; Liisa Byberg; Jonas Björk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physical activity; fracture; fragility fracture; epidemiology; cohort study; proteomic; walking; exercise; cross-country skiing; skiing; Vasaloppet.; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Fragility fractures mainly affect elderly individuals and often cause long term pain, loss of function and higher mortality rates. Physical activity improves balance, increases muscle strength and bone mineral density, and may reduce the risk of fragility fractures. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Smokeless Tobacco (Snus) and Cardiovascular Disease : Associations with Heart Failure and Prognosis after Myocardial Infarction

    Författare :Gabriel Arefalk; Johan Sundström; Martin Holzmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Snus; smokeless tobacco; nicotine; cardiovascular disease; heart failure; myocardial infarction; mortality; prognosis; epidemiology; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Previous investigations of snus use (oral moist snuff, a Swedish form of smokeless tobacco) and cardiovascular disease have generally focused on atherosclerotic events such as myocardial infarction and stroke, likely because smoking is such a well-established risk factor for atherosclerotic disease. Smokeless administration of tobacco circumvents most of the atherogenic effects of the combusted products from smoked tobacco, but it is possible that the potent autonomic and hemodynamic effects of snus and nicotine per se are detrimental for cardiovascular tissues. 5. 5. Subarachnoid haemorrhage : clinical and epidemiological studies

    Författare :Cecilia Lindgren; Silvana Naredi; Magnus Hultin; Lars-Owe Koskinen; Elisabeth Ronne-Engström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Subarachnoid haemorrhage; ADMA; Cortisol; EEG; inflammation; epidemiology; endothelium; arginine; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery; epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) is a severe stroke that in 85% of all cases is caused by the rupture of a cerebral aneurysm. The median age at onset is 50-55 years and the overall mortality is approximately 45%.Sufficient cortisol levels are important for survival. LÄS MER
