  1. 21. Theoretical modeling of scanning tunneling microscopy

    Författare :Alexander Gustafsson; Magnus Paulsson; Jorge Iribas Cerdá; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scanning tunneling microscopy; Computational models; Quantum tunneling; Green s functions; Density functional theory; Condensed Matter Physics; Kondenserade materians fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The main body of this thesis describes how to calculate scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) images from first-principles methods. The theory is based on localized orbital density functional theory (DFT), whose limitations for large-vacuum STM models are resolved by propagating localized-basis wave functions close to the surface into the vacuum region in real space. 2. 22. Hydrothermally induced changes of lean NOx reduction over Cu-ZSM-5 and stability improvements by synthesis modification

    Författare :Malin Berggrund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrothermal stability; Cu-ZSM-5; propene; lean NOx reduction; HC-SCR; in-situ DRIFT;

    Sammanfattning : The growing concern about the global warming coupled with the increasing emissions of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, combined with the climbing oil price, drives the interest to more fuel efficient lean combustion engines for automotive applications. Such engines require new technical solutions for reduction of NOx in the oxygen rich exhaust gases, where a conventional three-way catalyst cannot be used. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Outcome Measures of Functioning and Physical Activity in Patients with Low Back Pain - Exemplified in Patients Who Undergo Lumbar Fusion Surgery

    Författare :Max Jakobsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Health outcome assessment; Reliability; Validity; Responsiveness; Minimal important change; Accelerometry; Predictors; Prognostic factors; Lumbar spine surgery;

    Sammanfattning : INTRODUCTION: Chronic low back pain (LBP) can negatively affect health in terms of disability and decreased levels of functioning and physical activity. Chronic LBP due to degenerative disc disease (DDD) is a subgroup of LBP for which lumbar fusion surgery (LFS) is a treatment option. LÄS MER

  4. 24. An Associative Memory Trace in the Cerebellar Cortex

    Författare :Dan-Anders Jirenhed; Associativ inlärning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsychology; Classical Conditioning; Cerebellum; Purkinje cell; Physiology; Fysiologi; Neurology;

    Sammanfattning : Classical conditioning of motor responses, e.g., the eyeblink response, depends on the cerebellum. In the theoretical works of David Marr (1969) and James Albus (1971), it was proposed that Purkinje cells in the cerebellar cortex learn to associate the neutral conditioned stimulus with the response. 5. 25. Muscle strength and motor function in neuromuscular disorders. A clinical study of children and adolescents with spinal muscular atrophy, myotonic dystrophy, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and amyoplasia

    Författare :Anna-Karin Kroksmark; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :muscle involvement; muscle function; motor performance; contractures; spinal muscular atrophy; myotonic dystrophy; Duchenne muscular dystrophy; amyoplasia; arthrogryposis multiplex congenita;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The aims of this study were to investigate muscle strength and motor function in children and adolescents with four neuromuscular disorders; 1) spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), 2) myotonic dystrophy (DM), 3) Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD and 4) the amyoplasia form of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. Further: 1) to analyze compensatory maneuvers due to muscle weakness in individuals with SMA, 2) to correlate motor function in individuals with DM with the size of the mutation, 3) to evaluate the long-term side effects and effects on muscle strength, motor function, vital capacity and development of scoliosis in boys with DMD treated with low-dose prednisone, and 4) to investigate how muscle strength and joint contractures affect motor function in individuals with amyoplasia and to relate current status to joint position at birth.
