  1. 16. Addressing water scarcity in the Bolivian Altiplano for sustainable water management

    Författare :Claudia Canedo Rosso; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Climatology; climate modes; Drought; Water balance; ENSO; Soil moisture; crop yield; Remote sensing; Bolivian highlands; arid and semiarid regions; Climate anomaly;

    Sammanfattning : Water scarcity is a consequence of complex interactions between water access and water use. In fact, the time period over which precipitation deficit accumulates is a determing factor for the occurrence of drought. Drought induces crop production losses and far-reaching societal effects. In the South American Altiplano, drought is a major hazard. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Studies of Atmospheric Water Vapor Using the Global Positioning System

    Författare :Ragne Emardson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; troposphere; microwave radiometry; climatology; radiosondes; atmospheric water vapor; Global Positioning System; time series analysis; VLBI; space geodesy; GPS; Very Long Baseline Interferometry; meteorology; radio wave propagation; Kalman filtering;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric water vapor is of fundamental interest in the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) techniques. These techniques are based on the timing of radio waves propagating through the atmosphere. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Swash Processes and Dune Erosion: Emphasis on Vessel-Generated Waves

    Författare :Li Erikson; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Civil engineering; hydraulic engineering; geomorfologi; Fysisk geografi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Naturvetenskap; Physical geography; Natural science; swash; erosion; vessel-generated waves; dunes; offshore technology; soil mechanics; Väg- och vattenbyggnadsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In navigable waterways, owing to the relatively short fetches for wind wave generation, the free waves generated by moving vessels often produce the dominant wave action with respect to erosion of the shore. In response to the fairly recent introduction of high-speed ferries, combined with a planned expansion within the passenger- and car-carrying ship market, the need to model and predict coastline changes as a result of exposure to vessel-generated waves has become a topic of increased research. 4. 19. Leaf Area Index of Scandinavian Forests Methods Using in situ and Remotely Sensed Data

    Författare :Helena Eriksson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geologi; fysisk geografi; Physical geography; geomorphology; Geology; physical geography; leaf aggregation; specific leaf area SLA .; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; Leaf area index LAI ; canopy reflectance models; spectral vegetation indices; remote sensing; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with methods of obtaining the leaf area index (LAI) from remotely sensed satellite data. Initially, in situ estimation methods were investigated, since the accuracy of the remotely sensed estimates is dependent on the quality of these estimates. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Mountain vegetation in the Faroe Islands in a climate change perspective

    Författare :Anna Maria Fosaa; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; marklära; Växtekologi; Fysisk geografi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; climate change.; Physical geography; Raunkiær´s life-forms; biodiversity; Vegetation zones; plant communities; Plant ecology; kartografi; geomorfologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a study of the mountain vegetation in the Faroe Islands based on five altitudinal transects sampled during the period 1999-2001. The vegetation was studied on the basis of plant communities, life-forms and biodiversity of vascular plant species and is discussed in a climate change perspective. LÄS MER
