1. Klimat och karaktär : Naturen och människan i sent svenskt 1700-tal
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the influence of the notion of climate in Sweden 1750-1800. The theory of climate played an important role in many contexts in eighteenth century Sweden. In different ways it came to be used in historiography, political economy and, in time, in the study of man in the emerging discipline of anthropology. LÄS MER
2. The influence of the climatic energy balance on living conditions and distribution patterns of Idaea spp. (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) : an expansion of the species energy theory

3. Reconstruction of Past European Land Cover Based on Fossil Pollen Data : Gaussian Markov Random Field Models for Compositional Data
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to develop statistical models to reconstruct past land cover composition and human land use based on fossil pollen records over Europe for different time periods over the past 6000 years. Accurate maps of past land cover and human land use are needed when studying the interaction between climate and land surface, and the effects of human land use on past climate. LÄS MER
4. A study of atmospheric variations on climatic and medium range time scales using bifurcation theory
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with atmospheric variability on the long and medium range time scales as described by simplified, low-order models. On the climatic time scale of 0 (103 years) an energy balance and an ice-sheet model are used to investigate some aspects of the climatic record. LÄS MER
5. Quantifying ecological resilience in lakes – bridging theory and management
Sammanfattning : Ecological resilience, defined as the capacity of an ecosystem to withstand disturbances without losing original structures, processes and functions, has remained elusive and challenging to quantify. In this thesis, two methods were used to assess the resilience of aquatic communities to different stressors and management practices. LÄS MER
