  1. 16. Holocene climate and environmental change in high latitudes as recorded by stable isotopes in peat deposits

    Författare :Päivi Kaislahti Tillman; Steffen Holzkämper; Stefan Wastegård; Peter Kuhry; Thomas W. D. Edwards; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stable isotopes; Holocene; subarctic; climate; Sphagnum fuscum; kvartärgeologi; Quarternary Geology;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, stable carbon and oxygen isotopes in α-cellulose isolated from Sphagnum fuscum moss remains were used as climate proxies. The main focus was to implement the methods in records from high latitude peatlands in the Northern Hemisphere (west-central Canada and north-eastern European Russia), reconstruct palaeoclimate of the studied regions during the Holocene, and evaluate the compatibility of results with other proxy records, especially tree-ring isotope time-series. 2. 17. New insights into past atmospheric circulation dynamics

    Författare :Francesco Muschitiello; Barbara Wohlfarth; Richard Gyllencreutz; Qiong Zhang; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change associated with shifts in atmospheric circulation patterns has a great influence on ecosystems and societies. To predict future climate change it is important to obtain a detailed understanding of how climate behaved in the past, with special focus on the regional-scale and short-term expressions of changes in atmospheric circulation dynamics. 3. 18. Diatoms as indicators of Holocene climate and environmental change in northern Sweden

    Författare :Christian Bigler; Ingemar Renberg; Roland Hall; N. John Anderson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; diatoms; Holocene; paleolimnology; climate change; lake sediments; transfer functions; quantitative environmental reconstructions; northern Sweden; Abisko; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of the thesis was to explore the potential of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) as indicators of Holocene climate and environmental change in northern Sweden (Abisko region, 68°21'N, 18°49'E). A modern surface-sediment calibration set including 100 lakes was developed and lake-water pH, sedimentary organic content (assessed by loss-on-ignition) and temperature were identified as most powerful environmental variables explaining the variance within the diatom assemblages. 4. 19. Past environment and sediment dynamics in the Black Sea-Caspian Sea region from Southern Russian loess sequences

    Författare :Chiara Amalia Költringer; Thomas Stevens; Bjarne Almqvist; Ian Snowball; Kathryn Fitzsimmons; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Loess deposits are excellent past climate and environment archives and contain records of aeolian mineral dust accumulation. Loess deposits stretch across Eurasia and sequences along the Lower Volga in the Northern Caspian lowland in the South East European Plain represent a key link between European and Asian loess. 5. 20. Reconstruction of Holocene atmospheric mineral dust deposition from raised peat bogs in south–central Sweden

    Författare :Jenny Sjöström; Malin Kylander; Jonatan Klaminder; Martina Hättestrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mineral dust; paleodust; peat; Sweden; Holocene; mineralogy; XRD;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric mineral dust plays a dynamic role in the climate system acting both as a forcing and a feedback mechanism. To date, the majority of paleodust studies have been conducted on marine sediments or polar ice cores, while terrestrial deposition has been less studied. LÄS MER
