  1. 11. Credible targets for environmental management : evaluating reconstructions of reference values for ecological status in surface waters

    Författare :Salar Valinia; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In the year 2000, countries of the European Union agreed to harmonise water management by implementing the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). The WFD uses good ecological status as the overall goal, which is defined as minor deviation from an undisturbed state. LÄS MER

  2. 12. The development and implementation of software for palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatological research : the Bugs Coleopteran Ecology Package (BugsCEP)

    Författare :Philip Buckland; Roger Engelmark; Geoffrey Lemdahl; Paul Sinclair; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Quaternary geology; environmental archaeology; quaternary science; Coleoptera; beetles; database; environmental reconstructions; climate reconstructions; software; Mutual Climatic Range; MCR; palaeoentomology; Kvartärgeologi; Archaeology; Arkeologi; Archaeology; arkeologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis documents the development and application of a unique database orientated software package, BugsCEP, for environmental and climatic reconstruction from fossil beetle (Coleoptera) assemblages. The software tools are described, and the incorporated statistical methods discussed and evaluated with respect to both published modern and fossil data, as well as the author’s own investigations. 3. 13. Towards a flexible statistical modelling by latent factors for evaluation of simulated responses to climate forcings

    Författare :Ekaterina Fetisova; Gudrun Brattström; Anders Moberg; Rolf Sundberg; Johan Lindström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Confirmatory Factor Analysis; Measurement Error models; Structural Equation models; Wald confidence interval; Fieller confidence set; Climate model simulations; Climate forcings; Climate proxy data; Detection and Attribution; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, using the principles of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the cause-effect concept associated with structural equation modelling (SEM), a new flexible statistical framework for evaluation of climate model simulations against observational data is suggested. The design of the framework also makes it possible to investigate the magnitude of the influence of different forcings on the temperature as well as to investigate a general causal latent structure of temperature data. 4. 14. Pollen-based quantitative reconstruction of land-cover change in Europe from 11,500 years ago until present - A dataset suitable for climate modelling

    Författare :Anna-Kari Trondman; Marie-José Gaillard; Chris Caseldine; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pollen data; REVEALS model; model testing; land vegetation; land-cover; Holocene; Europe;

    Sammanfattning : The major objective of this thesis was to produce descriptions of the land vegetation-cover in Europe for selected time windows of the Holocene (6000, 3000, 500, 200, and 50 calendar years before present (BP=1950)) that can be used in climate modelling. Land vegetation is part of the climate system; its changes influence climate through biogeophysical and biogeochemical processes. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Characterizing and reconstructing 500 years of climate in the Baltic sea Basin

    Författare :Christin Eriksson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate; Sea ice; Baltic Sea; Atmospheric circulation; Statistical modelling; Wavelet; River runoff;

    Sammanfattning : Climate has always attracted considerable interest, and climate observations have been made in various ways for most of human history. Regional climate and how it varies is of particular interest, as it sets the scene for our everyday life. LÄS MER
