  1. 1. Land-use competition and agricultural greenhouse gas emissions in a climate change mitigation perspective

    Författare :David Bryngelsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioenergy; Diets; Livestock; Integrated assessment model; Land use competition; GHG emissions; Partial equilibrium model; Mitigation; Food consumption; Climate change;

    Sammanfattning : Productive land for food production, bioenergy, or preservation of nature is a limited resource. Climate change mitigation puts additional pressure on land via higher demand for bioenergy to replace fossil fuels and via restrictions on deforestation—two processes that limit the availability of land for food produc- tion, and may thus also raise food prices. 2. 2. Climate change frames and frame formation : An analysis of climate change communication in the Swedish agricultural sector

    Författare :Therese Asplund; Victoria Wibeck; Mattias Hjerpe; Knut H. Sørensen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Climate change communication; frame analysis; Swedish agriculture; farm magazines; focus groups; Klimatförändringar; kommunikation; frame analys; Svenskt lantbruk; lantbrukstidningar; fokusgrupper;

    Sammanfattning : While previous research into understandings of climate change has usually examined general public perceptions and mainstream media representations, this thesis offers an audience-specific departure point by analysing climate change frames and frame formation in Swedish agriculture. The empirical material consists of Swedish farm magazines’ reporting on climate change, as well as eight focus group discussions among Swedish farmers on the topic of climate change and climate change information. 3. 3. Rooting for forest resilience : Implications of climate and land-use change on the tropical rainforests

    Författare :Chandrakant Singh; Ingo Fetzer; Lan Wang-Erlandsson; Ruud van der Ent; Axel Kleidon; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; forest dynamics; human influence; land-use change; rainforest tipping; remote sensing; resilience; root zone storage capacity; tropical forests; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling; Sustainability Science;

    Sammanfattning : Tropical rainforests in the Amazon and Congo River basins and their climate are mutually dependent. Evaporation from these forests help regulate the regional and global water cycle. Furthermore, these rainforests themselves depend on precipitation to sustain their structure and functions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Climate, Conflict and Coping Capacity : The Impact of Climate Variability on Organized Violence

    Författare :Nina von Uexkull; Erik Melander; Hanne Fjelde; Jack A. Goldstone; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; civil conflict; communal conflict; climate change; climate variability; Sub-Saharan Africa; Kenya; geo-referenced event data; agricultural dependence; vulnerability; Peace and Conflict Research; Freds- och konfliktforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the conflict potential of climate variability is critical for assessing and dealing with the societal implications of climate change. Yet, it remains poorly understood under what circumstances – and how – extreme weather events and variation in precipitation patterns affect organized violence. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Changes in the Freshwater System : Distinguishing Climate and Landscape Drivers

    Författare :Fernando Jaramillo; Georgia Destouni; Zbigniew W. Kundzewicz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Budyko; evapotranspiration; freshwater; hydrology; hydroclimatic change; landscape change; land use; observation data; runoff; separation; water partitioning; water storage change; water use; worldwide; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Freshwater is a vital resource that circulates between the atmosphere, the land and the sea. Understanding and quantifying changes to the partitioning of precipitation into evapotranspiration, runoff and water storage change in the landscape are required for assessing changes to freshwater availability.
