  1. 1. Exploring small heat shock protein chaperones by crosslinking mass spectrometry

    Författare :Wietske Lambert; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cross-linking; mass spectrometry; protein-protein interactions; Hsp21; BS3; DTSSP; MALDI-TOF TOF; client protein; substrate; aggregation; unfolded protein; chaperone; Small heat shock protein; crosslinking;

    Sammanfattning : Together with other molecular chaperones, small heat shock proteins are key components of the protein quality control system, which is comprised of several hundred proteins and acts to maintain proteome homeostasis in the cell. Small heat shock proteins bind unfolding proteins at an early stage, to prevent these from further unfolding and aggregating. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bioinformatic protein family characterisation

    Författare :Joel Hedlund; Bengt Persson; Jaap Heringa; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Biological research is necessary; not only to further our understanding of the processes of life, but also to combat disease, hunger and environmental damage.Bioinformatics is the science of handling biological information. It entails integrating, structuring and analysing the ever-increasing amounts of available biological data. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pulling Force Studies of Secretory Protein Translocation into the Endoplasmic Reticulum

    Författare :Theresa Kriegler; Tara Hessa; Patricia Clark; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Co-translational translocation; Xbp1 arrest peptide; Translocon-associated protein TRAP complex; Prion protein; Insulin; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : More than 30% of human genes encode secretory or membrane proteins. Most secretory proteins are targeted to the Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane via cleavable N-terminal signal sequences either in a co- or post-translational manner. They enter or cross the membrane using a protein translocating channel (translocon). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Novel Bioinformatics Applications for Protein Allergology, Genome-Wide Association and Retrovirology Studies

    Författare :Álvaro Martínez Barrio; Erik Bongcam-Rudloff; Teresa K Attwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :data integration; web services; protein allergology; risk assessment; cross reactivity; endogenous retroviruses; ERV; dog; canine; GWAS; genome-wide association studies;

    Sammanfattning : Recently, the pace of growth in the amount of data sources within Life Sciences has increased exponentially until pose a difficult problem to efficiently manage their integration. The data avalanche we are experiencing may be significant for a turning point in science, with a change of orientation from proprietary to publicly available data and a concomitant acceptance of studies based on the latter. 5. 5. The interactome of the yeast mitochondrial ribosome : Organization of mitochondrial post-transcriptional regulation, membrane protein insertion and quality control

    Författare :Braulio Vargas Möller-Hergt; Martin Ott; Michal Minczuk; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mitochondria; mitochondrial post-transcriptional regulation; mitochondrial ribosome; membrane protein insertion; mitochondrial quality control; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The proteins found in mitochondria originate from two different genetic systems. Most mitochondrial proteins are synthesized in the cytosol and post-translationally imported into the organelle. However, a small subset of mitochondrial proteins is encoded in an organelle-resident genome. LÄS MER
