11. Peptide nucleic acid conjugates as artificial ribonucleases : Cu2+ and Zn2+-dependent PNAzymes
Sammanfattning : Synthetic modified oligonucleotides are gaining momentum as powerful therapeutic tools used in the treatment of life-threatening diseases. Degradation of disease-related RNA sequences is one of the goals achieved with oligonucleotide therapeutics, albeit the currently available technologies rely on the recruitment of endogenous enzymes, RNase H or RISC, limiting the chemical architecture of oligonucleotide drugs. 12. Investigation of RNase P active site residues and catalytic domain interaction
Sammanfattning : RNase P is an essential endoribonuclease responsible for the maturation of the tRNA 5’end. The RNase P family encompasses the ribozyme based, RNase P RNP, and proteinaceous RNase P (PRORP). The ribozyme based RNase P is widely distributed in most species while PRORP has so far mainly been found in some eukaryotic cells. LÄS MER
13. Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 proteinase : regulation of function and catalytic activity
Sammanfattning : HIV-l proteinase activity is a prerequisite for viral replication, and one of the main targets for anti-HlV therapy. Although potent proteinase inhibitors are currently being approved for treatment of AIDS patients, these drugs are unlikely to provide treatment which can give patients a life of normal quality and duration. 14. Hematopoietic Serine Proteases from the Mast Cell Chymase and Tryptase Loci - a Functional and Evolutionary Analysis
Sammanfattning : Mast cells are key effector cells in allergic and inflammatory diseases. However, their primary role is most likely in host defence against parasitic and bacterial infections. Mast cells are a particularly rich source of serine proteases. LÄS MER
15. Resistance to activated protein C a novel risk factor for venous thrombosis
Sammanfattning : Activated protein C resistance (APC resistance) is the most common hereditary condition associated with venous thrombosis. The syndrome known as APC resistance is perfectly linked to a mutation in the gene coding coagulation FV (FV:Q506) mutation changing Arg 506 to Gln in the APC cleavage site. LÄS MER
