6. Impacts of clear-cutting on soil fungal communities and their activities in boreal forests - A metatranscriptomic approach
Sammanfattning : Large-scale forestry has reduced and fragmented the area of primary forest and greatly impacted communities of organisms, above and below ground. Fungal com-munities, which are pivotal in boreal forest soil functions, are vulnerable to tree har-vesting. LÄS MER
7. Water chemistry and runoff in forest streams at Kloten
Sammanfattning : Natural variability of stream water composition and discharge was studied in the Kloten area, Central Sweden, by means of statistical methods and simulation technique. The effects of Urea (155 kgN ha-1) and ammonium nitrate (AN, 160 kgN ha-1) fertilization and clear-cutting were studied by comparing treated and reference streams before and after management. LÄS MER
8. Forests, Functions, and Food Webs : Riparian processes through an ecological and molecular lens
Sammanfattning : Riparian systems are critical ecological interfaces that have a significant impact on the surrounding aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The riparian and surrounding systems have significant roles in regulating energy flow, providing essential nutrients, and supporting unique species, making them important for ecosystem function. 9. The boreal journey of methyl mercury : from forest harvest to black alder swamps
Sammanfattning : The bioaccumulating neurotoxin methyl mercury (MeHg) is largely recognized as a problem in the boreal landscape. Both forest harvest sites and wetlands have been identified as MeHg sources. LÄS MER
10. Forestry impact on water quality: a landscape perspective on dissolved organic carbon
Sammanfattning : Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a fundamental variable defining boreal stream ecosystems. In this thesis the impact of forestry practices that are commonly performed in the boreal regions of Scandinavia for stream water quality were evaluated. LÄS MER
