21. Stumps as fuel : the influence of handling method on fuel quality
Sammanfattning : Wood fuels make a key contribution to renewable energy sources in the Nordic countries. The growing demand for forest biomass can be partly met by utilising energy-rich stumps left after clear cutting. As fuel, stump wood is commonly associated with a high presence of contaminants, resulting in high ash content. LÄS MER
22. DYNAMIC MODELLING OF BIOGEOCHEMICAL PROCESSES IN FOREST ECOSYSTEMS
Sammanfattning : Forests in Sweden are undergoing rapid and considerable changes regarding both management methods and environmental conditions. To understand the effects of these changes and to be able to predict impending changes in forest ecosystems, a holistic understanding of the processes governing the ecosystem is needed. LÄS MER
23. Road structures under climate and land use change : Bridging the gap between science and application
Sammanfattning : Future changes in climate and land use are likely to affect catchment hydrological responses and consequently influence the amount of runoff reaching roads. Blockages and damage to under-dimensioned infrastructure can be extremely costly for the regions affected. LÄS MER
24. Nitrogen in soil water of coniferous forests : effects of anthropogenic disturbances
Sammanfattning : In boreal and temperate forests, long-term elevated nitrogen (N) load may eventually saturate forest ecosystems with N, i.e. total N ecosystem input exceed ecosystem sinks for N, and N losses via soil water transport may then increase and negatively impact environmental quality. 25. Unravelling the feeding habits of fungivores : interactions between soil fauna and ectomycorrhizal fungi
Sammanfattning : The aim of this project was to investigate and clarify the feeding habits of fungivorous soil fauna, with the overall objective of improving our understanding of their functional roles in the ecosystem. Special focus was given to symbiotic ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi, that, owing to their abundance and diversity, are considered to constitute an important food source for fungivorous soil fauna and may be a factor regulating these faunal communities.
