12. Pore pressure response in the uppermost part of a clay soil slope - Two case studies in the Gothenburg region
Sammanfattning : In this research project the pore pressures in the uppermost 5 to 10 meters of clayey soils in southwestern Sweden are studied. The focus is on natural, short time variations, such as yearly variations due to precipitation, frost and evaporation. LÄS MER
13. Embankments founded on sulphide clay : - some aspects related to ground improvement by vertical drains
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, some aspects concerning building embankments founded on sulphide clay are studied, with special reference to ground improvement by preloading in combination with prefabricated vertical drains (PVD’s). The main purpose of the research was to increase empirical knowledge of the mechanical behaviour of sulphide clays subjected to embankment loadings and of the interaction between vertical drains and sulphide clays. 14. On modelling of slope stability in sensitive clay
Sammanfattning : The stability of natural slopes is a global problem, with the number of landslides and the associated socioeconomic losses increasing, as a result of the global trend of urbanisation, deforestation and changed weather patterns. The available methods for identifying potential failure modes and assessing the stability, however, overly simplify the modelled soil behaviour within a slope, which might lead to unnecessary mitigation measures or non-conservative results. 15. Slopes in soft clay - management of strength mobilisation
Sammanfattning : Many natural and man-made slopes close to buildings or infrastructure do not demonstrate sufficient levels of safety with respect to their stability. Nonetheless, it is a requirement from society that the environment we live in is safe. LÄS MER
