  1. 6. Genetic Variation in Mhc Class II B in Atlantic Salmon: Evolutionary and Ecological Perspectives

    Författare :Åsa Langefors; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; recombination; genetic variation; Mhc class II B; Atlantic salmon; evolution; population genetics; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The Major Histocompatibility Complex (Mhc) genes are crucial for the recognition of self and non-self peptides by the immune defence system. They are extremely variable in most studied vertebrate species. I have studied the extent and the importance of Mhc variation in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), mainly from the Baltic Sea. LÄS MER

  3. 8. MHC polymorphism in a songbird : Fitness, mate choice, and sexual conflict

    Författare :Jacob Roved; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Major histocompatibility complex; MHC diversity; MHC haplotypes; sexually antagonistic selection; costs of immune responses; adaptive immunity; great reed warbler; songbird;

    Sammanfattning : Sex differences in immune responses have been observed across a wide range of animal species, with the generaltendency that males have weaker immune responses than females. These differences are at least partly caused by immune-regulating effects of sex hormones, and have been associated with an increased prevalence of autoimmune disorders in females and with a general tendency for males to be parasitized more often than females. 4. 9. The MHC-glycopeptide-T cell interaction in collagen induced arthritis : a study using glycopeptides, isosteres and statistical molecular design in a mouse model for rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Lotta Holm; Jan Kihlberg; Morten Grötli; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; collagen; T-cell; class II MHC; solid phase peptide synthesis; glycopeptide; peptide isostere; PCA; statistical molecular design; PLS; QSAR; sequence binding motif; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease affecting approximately 1% of the population in the western world. It is characterised by a tissue specific attack of cartilage in peripheral joints. Collagen induced arthritis (CIA) is one of the most commonly used animal models for (RA), with similar symptoms and histopathology. LÄS MER

  5. 10. MHC and Transgenic Mice. A study into polymorphism and function of class I and class II molecules

    Författare :Mikael Vestberg; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MHC rat mouse transgenic autoimmunity collagen peptide; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transplantation antigens encoded in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) bind peptides and present them to T cells. We showed that mouse T cells expressing transgenic human CD8 can recognise human MHC class I. LÄS MER
