  1. 1. Talking to the Brain at the Blood-Brain Barrier through Inflammation-Induced Prostaglandin E2

    Författare :Ana Maria Vasilache; Camilla Nilsberth; Sivert Lindström; Fredrik Elinder; Ted Ebendal; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The immune-to-brain signaling is a critical survival factor when the body is confronted by pathogens, and in particular by microorganisms. During infections, the ability of the immune system to engage the central nervous system (CNS) in the management of the inflammatory response is just as important as its ability to mount a specific immune response against the pathogen, since the CNS can provide a systemic negative feed-back to the immune activation by release of stress hormones and also can prioritize the usage of the energy resources by the vital organs. 2. 2. The role of hyaluronan and its CD44 receptor in inflammation and cancer

    Författare :Chun-Yu Lin; Jyrki Tenhunen; Miklós Lipcsey; Paraskevi Heldin; Markku Tammi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CD44; Dengue; Hyaluronan; HAS2; iASPP; TGFbeta; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan, an important extra-cellular matrix molecule, was thought to be interstitial connecting glue decades ago. However, recent evidence has revealed that hyaluronan and its binding proteins also play crucial roles in various pathophysiological conditions in humans, including inflammation and infection. 3. 3. MOLECULAR ASPECTS OF ENDOTHELIAL CELL FUNCTION AND HYPOXIA-DEPENDENT TUMOR ANGIOGENESIS

    Författare :Paulina Kucharzewska; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypoxia; hypoxia-inducible factor; angiogenesis; anti-angiogenic therapy; endothelial cell; polyamines; microRNA; extracellular membrane vesicles; exosomes; glioblastoma;

    Sammanfattning : Hypoxia, or deficient oxygen levels, is an inherent feature of rapidly expanding tumor tissue. In order to survive in the hostile, hypoxic environment and to restore the supply of oxygen and nutrients tumor cells activate a variety of adaptive mechanisms. Among them, hypoxia-induced angiogenesis, i.e. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Microvesicle signaling in cardiovascular biology under normal and pathobiological conditions

    Författare :Paulina Bryl-Gorecka; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microvesicles; cardiovascular disease; atherosclerosis; biomarkers; acoustic trapping;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Atherosclerosis, a chronic pathology directly related to the circulatory system, develops due to an interplay between several molecular events. Atherosclerotic plaque build-up can lead to a reduction in arterial blood flow and finally, myocardial infarction (MI). LÄS MER

  5. 5. The role of N-cadherin and S1P/S1P1 in pancreas development

    Författare :Jenny Johansson; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Organogenesis of epithelial organs requires interaction between epithelial and mesenchymal tissues. During pancreas development, mesenchyme-derived structures induce specification, growth and differentiation of pancreatic epithelial cells. LÄS MER
