11. Lighting, Mood, and Seasonal Fatigue in Northern Argentina. Comparison to Countries Close to and Further from the Equator
Sammanfattning : The main problems in this thesis concern the impact of seasonal variations in daylight and ambient temperature on people's mood and the prevalence of various symptoms related to seasonal affective disorder. Questions are also raised about the role of the indoor environment and of the individual's personality as moderators of such an impact. LÄS MER
12. Perceived fatique related to work
Sammanfattning : Perceived fatigue at work is important because it may be unpleasant for the individual, it may interfere with productivity, and prolonged fatigue without recovery may lead to work-related disorders. This thesis presents a comprehensive approach towards assessment of work-related perceived fatigue. LÄS MER
13. Bile acid metabolism in humans : regulation of synthesis and circadian rhythms
Sammanfattning : Interfering with bile acids (BAs) signaling within the enterohepatic circulation (EHC) has recently emerged as an important way of controlling human metabolic homeostasis. This is highly relevant to a number of frequent disease entities such as dyslipidemia, fatty liver disease, insulin resistance, obesity, type 2 diabetes, gallstone disease and BA-induced diarrhea. 14. New insights into the regulation of stomatal movements by red light, carbon dioxide and circadian rhythms
Sammanfattning : Stomata are small adjustable pores formed by pairs of guard cells that enable gas exchange between leaves and the atmosphere, thus directly affecting water loss and CO₂ uptake in plants. The current work focuses on the regulation of stomatal movements by red light, carbon dioxide and the circadian system and attempts to uncover molecular mechanisms that control guard cell function. 15. Alterations in circadian entrainment : translational value in major depression
Sammanfattning : Adverse conditions of different origin occurring during development can have a negative impact on the nervous system and increase risk for the onset of mental disorders. In mice prenatal exposure to excess glucocorticoids (GC) leads to late onset depression-like behaviour in males which is preceded by alterations in circadian entrainment. LÄS MER
