    Sammanfattning : This thesis is divided into three parts: conjugate additions of organocopper reagents, DDQ oxidations of arylpropenes, and synthesis and steric assignment of 2-arylcoumarans. The iodotrimethylsilane(TMSI)-promoted conjugate addition of alkylcopper and copper acetylides to certain a,b-unsaturated carbonyl compounds is investigated. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This study deals with the use of selectively 13C-enriched dehydrogenation polymers (DHPs) as models of lignin in lignocellulosic materials for elucidating the reaction pathways involved in light-induced yellowing.     Sammanfattning : To examine cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitory effects of natural compounds and structurally related compounds, a radiochemical assay for measuring inhibition of COX-2 and COX-1 catalysed prostaglandin biosynthesis was optimised. That process resulted in the development of a reliable assay for finding COX-2 inhibitors in plants, and for investigating plant constituents pertaining to the inhibition of COX-2 and COX-1. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Under alkaline conditions hydrogen peroxide can be used either as a 1ignin-degrading or a 1ignin-preserving bleaching agent. If heavy metal ions are present and/or silicate is absent in the reaction medium, hydrogen peroxide decomposes via hydroxyl radicals and superoxide ions to oxygen and water. LÄS MER
