  1. 1. The role of progesterone in the regulation of ciliary activity in the fallopian tube

    Författare :Magdalena Nutu; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :progesterone; progesterone receptor; non-genomic progesterone receptor; ciliated cells; fallopian tube; gamete transport; ciliary activity; ciliary beat frequency; reproduction; fertility;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the distribution and regulation of membrane progesterone receptors (mPRs) that may be involved in regulating ciliary activity in the fallopian tube. The fallopian tube serves to transport the egg and spermatozoa to achieve fertilization. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pharmacological control of ciliary activity in the young sea urchin larva : cholinergic and monoaminergic effects and the role of calcium and cyclic nucleotides

    Författare :Sherif Soliman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The ciliary activity of the young (prenervous) sea urchin larva, reflected by its swimming intensity, is measured according to a simple method. The changes in ciliary activity from hatching throughout gastrulation commonly show two main peaks coinciding with the two main phases of gastrulation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cystatin C in the Eye and in Specific Model Systems

    Författare :Johan Wasselius; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; protein uptake; ciliary body; lens; cornea; retina; eye; Cystatin C; cathepsin B; Oftalmologi;

    Sammanfattning : It is a necessity of life to make proteins, and it is an equal necessity to degrade those proteins, to eliminate dysfunctional proteins, and leave room for new ones. The processes of protein synthesis and degradation into peptides - proteolysis - have attracted a great interest during the last decades. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aspects of aqueous humor dynamics : Studies in vivo and in vitro

    Författare :Maria Samuelsson-Almén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; Aqneous humor flow; intraocular pressure; adenylate cyclase; nonpigmented ciliary epithelium; pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide; vasoactive intestinal polypeptide; dopamine; prostaglandin; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present investigation was to study the effects of PGF2α-l-isopropylester, some neuropeptides, and pharmacological agents on aqueous humor dynamics and intraocular pressure (IOP) in vivo and on adenylate cyclase activity in the nonpigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE) in vitro.Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) caused a dose-dependent increase in cAMP formation, indicating that the NPE contains receptors for PACAP and VIP coupled to adenylate cyclase activation. 5. 5. White matter connections : developmental neuroimaging studies of the associations between genes, brain and behavior

    Författare :Fahimeh Darki; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Development of cognitive abilities across childhood and adulthood parallels brain maturation in typically developing samples. Cognitive abilities such as reading and working memory have been linked to neuroimaging measures in relevant brain regions. LÄS MER
