1. Ultrasound examination of lymph nodes in the hepato-duodenal ligament with special emphasis on patients with chronic liver diseases
Sammanfattning : The significance of finding lymph nodes in the hepato-duodenal ligament on ultrasound, with special emphasis on patients with inflammatory liver disease, has been evaluated. In one study a comparison was made with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which is another non-invasive imaging modality without the hazards of ionizing radiation. LÄS MER
2. On the Design and Synthesis of Hepatitis C Virus NS3 Protease Inhibitors : From Tripeptides to Achiral Compounds
Sammanfattning : Infection by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) leads to inflammation of the liver, i.e. hepatitis. The acute infection often progresses to a chronic phase during which the liver function is gradually impaired. LÄS MER
3. Chronic hepatitis B : immunological, virological and clinical aspects in the natural course and during the combined prednisolone and interferon-alpha-2b therapy
Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to characterize the IgM and IgG antibody responses to well-defined B-cell epitopes within the preS2 region of the HBV envelope proteins in sera from Chinese and Caucasian patients with chronic HBV infection in relation to viral load and liver disease activity. In addition, the effects of the combined prednisolone and interferon- alpha-2b therapy on these parameters, as well as on the peripheral lymphocyte subsets, were studied in Chinese patients with chronic hepatitis B. 4. Design and Synthesis of Aspartic and Serine Protease Inhibitors : Targeting the BACE-1 and the HCV NS3 Protease
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes work done to design and synthesize protease inhibitors, with the intention of developing therapeutic agents for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and the chronic liver condition caused by infection of the hepatitis C virus (HCV). AD is the most common form of dementia, and HCV infection is the primary reason for liver transplantation in industrialized countries. LÄS MER
5. Exposure to hepatitis C virus early in life : epidemiological and Immunological aspects
Sammanfattning : Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a blood borne virus affecting the liver. Globally, it is estimated that approximately 6 million children live with HCV infection today. The main transmission route in children today is vertical transmission. Before the introduction of blood donor screening in 1992, blood transfusion was an important source of infection. LÄS MER
