1. Phylogenetic Relationships of Silene sect. Melandrium and Allied Taxa (Caryophyllaceae), as Deduced from Multiple Gene Trees
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on phylogenetic relationships among some of the major lineages in Silene subgenus Behenantha (Caryophyllaceae) using DNA sequences from multiple, potentially unlinked gene regions from a large taxonomic and geographic sample. Both traditional phylogenetic analyses and a strategy to infer species trees and gene trees in a joint approach are used. LÄS MER
2. Alterations of the short arm of chromosome 9p in lymphoid malignancies
Sammanfattning : Malignant disease evolves through the successive accumulation of genetic lesions affecting growth-controlling genes in the cell-clone undergoing malignant transformation. 9p21 has long been suspected to harbour a tumour suppressor gene, because of frequent deletions of this region in malignancies including acute lymphocytic leukaemia (ALL). 3. Molecular Genetic Studies of ALSG, Kostmann Syndrome and a Novel Chromosome 10 Inversion
Sammanfattning : In summary, this thesis presents the localisation and identification of genetic variants of which some are disease associated and some considered to be neutral. Knowledge of the basic mechanisms behind human disorders is important both from a biological and medical point of view. LÄS MER
4. Genetic variations influencing susceptibility to multiple sclerosis
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disease affecting approximately 12 000 individuals in Sweden. Epidemiological studies have shown that most likely several genetic variations contribute and interact with each other as well as with environmental factors in the development of MS. LÄS MER
5. Genetic changes in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and other lymphoid malignancies
Sammanfattning : Malignant transformation of normal cells is the result of defects in cell growth control, differentiation and programmed cell death. It has been convincingly shown that malignant cells carry mutations in the genes controlling these cellular processes. LÄS MER
