1. Molecular mechanisms in cervical carcinogenesis : Studies of clonality, somatic genetic alterations and human papillomavirus variants in cervical pre-invasive and invasive cancer
Sammanfattning : Cervical cancer derives from a series of pre-invasive cervical neoplastic lesions termed CIN I-III (Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia) via typical multiple-step processes. In contrast to premalignant disorders in other organs, different degrees of CIN possess a distinct biological behaviour where a proportion spontaneously regress or persist, whereas some progress to invasive cancer. 2. Genetic alterations in Scandinavian neuroblastoma tumors
Sammanfattning : The results presented here derive from our efforts to find genes and chromosomal regions of interest in the formation and progression of the childhood tumor neuroblastoma.Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor of childhood. LÄS MER
3. Delection mapping of human 3p in major epithelial types of cancer and fine localization of candidate tumor suppressor genes
Sammanfattning : Allele loss and deletion mapping using microsatellite markers and the detection of homozygous deletions represented until now the most powerful method to localize potential TSGs. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) involving several chromosome 3p regions accompanied by chromosome 3p deletions are detected in almost 100% of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), small (SCLCs) and more than 90% of non-small (NSCLC) cell lung cancers. 4. Endocrine tumour development : with special focus on chromosome arms 1p and 11q
Sammanfattning : The overall goal of this thesis has been to characterise the involvement of chromosome arms 1p and 11 q in the development of endocrine tumours. The MEN1 gene was analysed as a candidate tumour suppressor gene by screening for mutations in follicular thyroid tumours, malignant melanomas, pheochromocytomas, and abdominal paragangliomas. 5. Molecular Pathogenesis of Cervical Carcinoma : Analysis of Clonality, HPV16 Sequence Variations and Loss of Heterozygosity
Sammanfattning : A previous model of morphological pathogenesis assumed that cervical carcinoma is of monoclonal origin and progresses through multiple steps from normal epithelium via CINS into invasive carcinomas. The aim of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanism of pathogenesis of cervical neoplasia. LÄS MER
