  1. 1. Studies of neuropeptides in pancreatic beta cell function with special emphasis on islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP)

    Författare :Ella Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; alpha cell; amylin; beta cell; chromogranin; growth; IAPP; insulin; islet amyloid polypeptide; leptin; NOD mice; pancreastatin; pancreatic islet; proliferation; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of protein amyloid in pancreas and its association to diabetes was first described 100 years ago in 1901, but was not identified as Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP) until 1986. The aim of the present work was to determine the role of the beta cell hormone, IAPP, in normal pancreatic islet physiology and during early disturbances of islet function. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Clinical and Experimental Studies on Inflammatory Bowel Disease with special emphasis on Collagenous Colitis

    Författare :Michael Wagner; Marie Carlson; Maria Lampinen; Per Sangfelt; Erik Hertervig; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Collagenous colitis; inflammatory bowel disease; ulcerative colitis; Crohn´s disease; faecal markers; eosinophil; T-cells; ECP; EPX; MPO; calprotectin; flowcytometry; chromogranin A; chromogranin B; secretoneurin; budesonide; Gastroenterology; Gastroenterologi; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and collagenous colitis (CC). We investigated mucosal eosinophil and neutrophil granulocytes and T-cells involved in the inflammatory processes and aimed at determining whether these processes are reflected in the faecal (F) contents of specific proteins secreted by cells in the intestinal mucosa. 3. 3. Neurohormonal Modulators in the Parathyroid Gland. Localization and regulation

    Författare :Lena Luts; Malmö Patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Receptor; In situ hybridization; Immunocytochemistry; Nitric Oxide Synthase; Endothelin; Neuropeptides; Chromogranin; Parathyroid adenoma; Parathyroid gland; Parathyroid hormone; mRNA; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : The occurrence and distribution of neurohormonal peptides, neuroendocrine markers and receptors in parathyroid nerve fibers and endocrine cells are described, using immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization, image analysis and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Immunocytochemical studies revealed that parathyroid glands of chicken, rat, guinea-pig, cat, dog and sheep contained adrenergic-, cholinergic-, and peptide-containing nerve fibers. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Histamine and chromogranin A-derived peptides in rat stomach ECL cells

    Författare :Per Norlén; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; CGRP adrenaline; galanin; VIP; PACAP; somatostatin; gastrin; microdialys; pancreastatin; chromogranin A; histamine; ECL cell; rat stomach; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ECL cells constitute the predominant endocrine cell population of the stomach. They secrete histamine which is a major stimulator of acid secretion. Chormogranin A (CgA)-derived peptides, such as pancreastatin, are co-secreted with histamine. LÄS MER
