    Sammanfattning : Glucosamine (GlcN) and glucosamine sulfate (GS) have been used to treat the patients with osteoarthritis(OA) as a disease-modifying agent. Previousin vitro studies have focused on the effects of GlcN or GSon cartilage metabolism, whereas in vivo studies have investigated their potential for the treatment of OA. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Studies on syndecan-1 in mesenchymal tumors

    Författare :Fang Zong; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The syndecans are a four-member family of type I transmembrane proteoglycans. Their core proteins have a short cytoplasmic domain, a transmembrane domain and a large N-terminal extracellular domain possessing glycosaminoglycan chains. All the protein domains and the glycosaminoglycan chains can contribute to the functions of syndecans. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Fatty acids induce potentially atherogenic changes in extracellular matrix proteoglycans

    Författare :Mariam Rodríguez-Lee; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :proteoglycans; glycosaminoglycans; fatty acids; smooth muscle cells; hepatocytes; LDL binding; remnant clearance; insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are associated with an increased prevalence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). A key step in the initiation of atherogenesis is retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the intima by chondroitin sulfate (CS)-rich proteoglycans (PG). LÄS MER

  5. 20. Intracellular processing of pre-a-inhibitor

    Författare :Maria Thuveson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; pre-alpha-inhibitor; heavy chain 3; bikunin; intracellular processing; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Pre-α-inhibitor (PαI) is a plasma protein consisting of a 25 and a 75 kDa polypeptide: bikunin and heavy chain 3 (H3), respectively. Both these polypeptides are made by hepatocytes and while passing through the Golgi complex, bikunin, which carries a chondroitin sulfate chain, becomes covalently linked to the C-terminal amino acid residue of H3 via its polysaccharide.
