  1. 11. Peripherally administered choleocystokinin-8 increases neurotrophins in the brain

    Författare :Paola Tirassa; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NGF; BDNF; CCK-8; glutamate; GABA; CCK receptors; hypothamalus; hippocampus; Choline Acetyltransferase; fimibria-fornix transection; vagotomy; vagal stimulation; RT-PCR; ELISA;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to test the hypothesis that the gastric hormone Cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8) can modulate the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) in the brain. NGF is the first discovered and the best characterized neurotrophic factor which plays a crucial role in the survival and development of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons (BFCN). LÄS MER

  2. 12. Cardiovascular and sympatho-adrenal responses to mental stress with special reference to the regulation of human forearm blood flow

    Författare :Madeleine Lindqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :adrenaline; axillary blockade; beta-receptor blockader; calcium channel blockers; cholinergic blockingagents; felodipine; hypertension-primary; noradrenaline; skeletal muscle; sodium nitroprusside; stress-psychologicai; vascular resistance;

    Sammanfattning : The cardiovascular and sympatho-adrenal responses to a standardized mental stress test (Stroop's colour word conflict test CWT) were studied in 63 healthy and 11 hypertensive men by intraarterial pressure measurements, forearm blood flow by occlusion plethysmography and noradrenaline (NA) and adrenaline (ADR) determinations in arterial and venous plasma. One study included central hemodynamics by right heart catheterization and NA turnover by an isotope dilution method, permitting studies of NA kinetics in the whole body and in a regional vascular bed (the forearm) in hypertensive patients and age-matched controls. Sammanfattning : A balanced tear film is essential for a healthy ocular surface. Insufficient tear production may result in dry eye, a common disorder in the elderly population. Dry eye causes significant discomfort in the patients and may lead to visual impairment and ocular infections. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Ion transport in exocrine glands with reference to cystic fibrosis

    Författare :Ailing Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; ion transport; cystic fibrosis; submandibular gland; airway submucosal gland; X-ray microanalysis; cytosolic Ca2 concentration; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : Aspects of ion transport in rat submandibular gland acinar cells at the subcellular level, and the regulation of chloride secretion and calcium mobilization in cultured pig tracheal gland acinar cells were studied with reference to the disease cystic fibrosis.In adult rat submandibular gland acinar cells, both cholinergic and α-adrenergic stimulation induced efflux of K+ and of C1-, but the response was generally less with α-adrenergic stimulation. 5. 15. Somatostatin neurotransmission : studies on experimentally induced cognitive changes and Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Lars Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer s disease Adenylyl cyclase Autoradiography Behavior Cerebral cortex DemenbaEnvironment Ibotenic acid lesion In-situ hybridization Learning Neuropeptides Northern blot Nucleus basalismagnocellularis Posttranslational processing Rat Recepto;

    Sammanfattning : Several neuropeptides are widely distributed in regions of the central nervous system (CNS) which are associated with cognitive functions. Multiple studies on postmortem Alzheimer's disease (AD) brains have shown depleted neuropeptide content and morphological abnormalities of somatostatin (SS)-containing interneurons in the hippocampus and the cerebral cortex.
