  1. 1. Striatal adenosine A2A receptors

    Författare :Per Svenningsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :caffeine; adenosine; A2A receptors; dopamine receptors; striatum; basal ganglia; immediate early genes; c-fos; NGFI-A; DARPP-32; in situ hybridization;

    Sammanfattning : The nucleoside adenosine exerts a modulatory action in the central nervous system by activating G-protein coupled receptors. Four such receptors are cloned and pharmacologically characterized: A1, A2A, A2B and A3. Caffeine, the most widely consumed psychostimulant, acts as an adenosine receptor antagonist predominantly on the first two. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Functional Models in the Search for Pharmacological Treatment of Urinary Incontinence : The Role of Adrenergic, Cholinergic, and Serotonergic Receptors

    Författare :Ali-Reza Modiri; Karl-Erik Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Stress incontinence and overactive bladder are disorders with a common symptom, urinary incontinence, which is a serious medical and social handicap. Several neurotransmitters regulate the function of the lower urinary tract, including noradrenaline, acetylcholine, and serotonin. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the cholinergic c-bouton

    Författare :Johan Hellström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acetylcholine; Brainstem; Immunohistochemistry; In situ hybridization; Motoneurons; Muscarinic receptors; Rat; Spinal cord; Ventral horn cells;

    Sammanfattning : The cholinergic C-bouton is a large nerve terminal type exclusively contacting motoneuron cell somata and proximal dendrites. C-boutons are characterized by subsurface cisterns found beneath the postsynaptic membrane, which is an exclusive feature for these nerve terminals. The origin of the C-boutons is unknown. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Innervation patterns and locally produced signal substances in the human patellar tendon : of importance when understanding the processes of tendinosis

    Författare :Patrik Danielson; Sture Forsgren; Håkan Alfredson; Graham Riley; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; patellar tendon; innervation; tendinosis; tendinopathy; acetylcholine; catecholamines; muscarinic receptors; adrenergic receptors; Anatomy; Anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : Tendinosis is a condition of chronic pain that afflicts several human tendons, not least the patellar tendon, in which case it is often clinically referred to as ‘jumper’s knee’. The exact mechanisms behind tendinosis are yet not fully understood. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neurotoxic Effects of Nicotine During Neonatal Brain Development : Critical Period and Adult Susceptibility

    Författare :Emma Ankarberg; Per Eriksson; Richard F. Seegal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; nicotine; neonatal development; behaviour; nicotinic receptors; susceptibility; cholinergic system; paraoxon; PBDE; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examined neurotoxic effects of nicotine exposure during a defined critical period of neonatal brain development in mice.In our environment there are numerous hazardous contaminants that an individual can be exposed to during its entire lifetime. LÄS MER
