1. Prognostic molecular markers of childhood leukemia
Sammanfattning : During the last decades there has been a dramatic increase in survival rates for childhood leukemia, resulting today in an overall survival close to 90 % for children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). This accomplishment is largely due to treatment protocols based on careful risk group assessment guiding the type and intensity of the anti-leukemic treatment. LÄS MER
2. Detection of immunoglobulin heavy chain gene rearrangement with PCR for MRD analysis in lymphoproliferative disorders
Sammanfattning : Immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) gene rearrangement occurs during early B-lymphocyte differentiation, assembling the different IGH gene segments to a functional gene, which can serve as a marker for study of lineage association and detection of Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) in clonal diseases deriving from B-lymphocytes or their early differentiation stages. Use of a molecular marker for the leukemic cells could help improve treatment by monitoring therapeutic efficacy, predicting relapse, and identifying very small amounts of tumour cells contaminating autografts after purging or enrichment of stem cells. 3. Regulation of antibody production in immunocompromised patients
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study B-cell function and the regulation of specific antibody (Abs) production in immunocompromised individuals. As models, we have studied children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) and patients with IRV-I infection. LÄS MER
4. Chemokines and chemokine receptors during viral infections in man
Sammanfattning : Chemokines and chemokine receptors are critical mediators of cell migration during immune surveillance, inflammation and development. The generation of antibody responses depends on B and T cell collaboration within germinal centers in lymphoid tissue. LÄS MER
