21. The impact of helminth infection in patients with active tuberculosis
Sammanfattning : The geographic distribution of helminth infection and tuberculosis (TB) overlap substantially. Experimental animal models and limited data from humans have shown that intestinal helminths could subvert the host immune response towards a T-helper 2 (Th2)-type immune response and an increased regulatory T-cell activity (Tregs). 22. On-line vectorcardiography in ischemic heart disease
Sammanfattning : The clinical usefulness of continuous on-line vector cardiography (VCG) was assessed in 435 patients, admitted to the coronary care unit. The ability of 24-hour VCG monitoring to differentiate patients with or without ischemic heart disease (IHD), to provide long-term prognostic information and to predict results from a predischarge exercise test in patients with unstable angina pectoris or acute myocardial infarction (MI) was evaluated. 23. On ionising radiation and breast cancer risk
Sammanfattning : Background: It is well known that exposure to ionising radiation increases the risk for breast cancer occurrence. However, better understanding of breast cancer risks in terms of dose-response relationships formulated according to radiobiological target theories, age-at-exposure patterns and temporal dependence are important for the understanding of the underlying biological mechanism of radiation carcinogenesis as well as for the concern about possible risks associated with the very low doses received from routine mammographic screening. 24. Langerhans cell histiocytosis : a clinical and immunological study
Sammanfattning : Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), previously known as histiocytosis X, eosinophilic granuloma, Hand-Schüller-Christian or Letterer-Siwe disease, is a rare disease with a reported incidence in childhood of 5.4 cases per million children per year. The disease can present at any age but young children are most often affected. LÄS MER
25. Tuberculosis control in Vietnam : directly observed treatment, short-course (DOTS) : the role of information and education
Sammanfattning : Background: In 1993, the WHO declared tuberculosis (TB) a global emergency. At the same time, the DOTS strategy was recommended for controlling TB. DOTS focuses on sputum smear positive pulmonary TB patients who present themselves to a health facility for diagnosis. LÄS MER
