  1. 6. Inconsistencies and missing links in EU chemicals legislation

    Författare :Diana Kättström; Marlene Ågerstrand; Steffen Foss Hansen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; REACH; Cosmetic Products Regulation; Biocidal Products Regulation; CLP; new hazard classes; PBT vPvB; EDC; PMT vPvM; endocrine disruptor; Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The EU chemicals legislation consists of the Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and the Regulation on Classification, Labelling, and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP), complemented by over fifty regulations and directives regulating specific uses and products. While regulating individual uses may offer a faster and simpler approach to protecting human health and the environment from hazardous chemicals, it can also lead to inconsistencies, such as gaps and overlaps. 2. 7. Transparency within REACH? : Regulatory risk assessment of industrial chemicals

    Författare :Ellen Ingre-Khans; Christina Rudén; Marlene Ågerstrand; Anna Beronius; Jeanne Duus Johansen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; REACH; chemicals legislation; risk assessment; hazard assessment; transparency; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Chemicals provide us with many benefits but can also have adverse effects on human health and the environment. Concerns that previous European legislations were not providing adequate protection from chemical risks resulted in a new chemicals legislation – REACH – in 2007. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Promoter Engineering for Cyanobacteria : An Essential Step

    Författare :Hsin-Ho Huang; Peter Lindblad; James Golden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; synthetic biology; cyanobacteria; promoter; engineering; TetR; DNA breathing dynamics; transcription; regulation;

    Sammanfattning : Synthetic biology views a complex biological system as an ensemble in the hierarchy of parts, devices, systems, and networks. The practice of using engineering rules such as decoupling and standardization to understand, predict, and re-build novel biological functions from model-driven designed genetic circuits is emphasized. 4. 9. Management of chemical risk through occupational exposure limits

    Författare :Linda Schenk; Christina Rudén; Michael Gilek; Maria Albin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; occupational exposure limit; risk assessment; risk management; chemicals regulation; regulatory toxicology; European Union; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) are used as an important regulatory instrument to protect workers’ health from adverse effects of chemical exposures. The OELs mirror the outcome of the risk assessment and risk management performed by the standard setting actor. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Prior informed consent and hazardous trade : Regulating trade in hazardous goods at the intersection of sovereignty, free trade and environmental protection

    Författare :David Langlet; Said Mahmoudi; Günther Handl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; informed consent; PIC; trade bans; effective sovereignty; environmental law; free-trade law; hazardous substances; wastes; chemicals; GMOs; Environmental law; Miljörätt; miljörätt; Environmental Law;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation analyses international and to some extent domestic law pertaining to trade in hazardous substances. Hazardous trade regulation is found to promote or accommodate three objectives in particular: the strengthening of the ability of (importing) States to exercise control of transboundary flows of hazardous substances; the protection of human health and environment; and the avoidance of impediments to the free flow of goods.
