6. Setting occupational exposure limits : Practices and outcomes of toxicological risk assessment
Sammanfattning : Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) are used as an important regulatory instrument to protect workers’ health from adverse effects of chemical exposures. The main objective of this thesis is to study risk assessment practices in the setting of OEL in order to produce knowledge that will help improve the consistency and transparency of OELs. LÄS MER
7. Modelling long-term redox processes and oxygen scavenging in fractured crystalline rocks
8. Solute Transport in Fractured Rocks : The Effect of Stagnant Water Zones and Velocity Dispersion
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on the development of new models to improve our understanding of radionuclide transport in the repository “far-field” in fractured rocks. The proposed models contribute to the channel network concept and describe the recently developed models with stagnant water zones (STWZs) and channels with variable aperture allowing to consider their possible impacts on the overall transport of radionuclides in fractured rocks. 9. Solute transport in fractured rocks : Analysis of analytical solutions and determination of transport parameters
Sammanfattning : In order to facilitate the assessment of the safety and function of deep geological repositories for radioactive waste, several models have been developed to describe water flow and transport of solutes in fractured crystalline rock. The rock around the repository is described and modelled as a network of water-bearing fractures. LÄS MER
10. Surface reactivity of metal nanoparticles : - importance of surface active agents and biomolecules from a transformation, mobility and toxicity perspective
Sammanfattning : Metallic nanoparticles possess unique properties due to their size and are widely used in e.g. consumer products. From this follows a need to identify and assess potential risks of human and environmental exposure. LÄS MER
