1. Mechanisms of Biopolymer Solvation: Development of a two-component ionic liquid solvent system
Sammanfattning : Ionic liquids are of potential interest in the processing of lignocellulosic biomass, and/or its components, for the purpose of producing renewable and value-added biomaterials. An understanding of how solvation can be achieved and the way in which the feedstock biopolymers are affected, however, needs to be gained prior to a viable implementation. LÄS MER
2. Transient In Situ Studies on Supported Catalysts: CO2 Methanation and Methane Oxidation
Sammanfattning : This dissertation aims to increase the understanding of important steps in the catalytic CO2 hydrogenation and total methane oxidation reactions over supported noble metal catalysts. A general theme is the role of the metal oxide support for the catalytic reactions. LÄS MER
3. Interactions of methane and carbon monoxide with platinum - Supported catalysts and chemical sensors
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at increasing the understanding of the interactions of methane and carbon monoxide with platinum in connection to catalysis and sensor technology for emission control. Specifically, the low-temperature oxidation of methane and carbon monoxide over supported platinum catalysts and the sensor response mechanism towards CO of platinum-based chemical field effect sensors were studied. 4. Direct conversion of methane-to-methanol: transition-metal dimer sites in small-pore zeolites: First-principles calculations and microkinetic modeling
Sammanfattning : Direct conversion of methane to methanol is a highly desired reaction. Partially oxidizing methane into a liquid fuel at ambient temperature and pressure would enable utilization of natural gas and biogas to a much larger extent than what is possible today. LÄS MER
5. CO Oxidation over Oxide Supported Platinum Catalysts
Sammanfattning : Catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) is one of the most studied reactions that still needs to be improved because of its practical use in the chemical industry including feedstock purification and applications such as emission control, in-door air cleaning, improvement of fuel cell efficiency, etc. Concerning CO emissions, the transportation sector is a large contributor.
