16. Alkylglucosides - physical chemical properties
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to characterise the physical-chemical properties of alkylglucosides. Alkylglucosides are non-ionic surfactants synthesized from glucose and a fatty alcohol. The glucose molecule constitutes the hydrophilic head group and the fatty alcohol constitutes the hydrophobic tail. LÄS MER
17. Structure and bonding of sulfur-containing molecules and complexes
Sammanfattning : Synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques enable investigations of the many important biological and environmental functions of the ubiquitous element sulfur. In this thesis the methods for interpreting sulfur K-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectra are developed and applied for analyses of functional sulfur groups. LÄS MER
18. On the structures of flavin derivatives : crystallographic studies and a review
Sammanfattning : A summary is given of the crystal structures of one oxidized and two fully reduced flavin derivatives and of one zinc-riboflavin derivative. Structural results from single-crystal studies of thirty-four other flavin compounds and two flavoproteins are included in a review. LÄS MER
19. Studies of structural transitions in trimetal pentoxides of titanium and vanadium : from the growth of pure single-crystals to critical phenomena at the transition points
Sammanfattning : The growth of highly pure single crystals of titanium (Ti2O3-TiO2) and vanadium (V203-V205) oxides by chemical transport reactions with TeCl4 as a transport medium is discussed. The chemical transport mechanisms, transport rates and oxidation states of the transported crystals in the titanium and vanadium oxide systems are compared. LÄS MER
20. Functionalization and Characterization of Carbon Based Nanomaterials for Electronics, Composite and Biomedical Applications
Sammanfattning : Surface functionalization of nanomaterials to combine different material’s properties together opens up unlimited possibilities for both academic research and industrial applications. In this thesis, flexible and scalable chemical approaches to functionalize carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) are developed for different applications, including electronics, composite and biomedical applications.
