1. Simulating water and pollutant transport in bark, charcoal and sand filters for greywater treatment
Sammanfattning : A septic tank combined with a sand filter is the most common onsite wastewater treatment system worldwide, since it is a simple, lowcost and reliable treatment method. Alternatives to sand in filters could be advantageous in terms of availability of material and enhanced treatment properties. LÄS MER
2. Fire history in the hemiboreal and southern boreal zones of southern Sweden during 11000 years : Relationships with past vegetation composition and human activities and implications for biodiversity issues
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies fire history over the last 11 000 years (Holocene) in central Småland, southern Sweden, on the basis of palaeoecological analyses of peat sequences from three small bogs (Notteryd, Stavsåkra and Storasjö). The main objective is to gain insights into the long-term relationships between fire, climate, human-impact, other environmental factors and the history of biodiversity in the study region. LÄS MER
3. Changing Landscapes : An Environmental History of Chibuene, Southern Mozambique
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses the dynamics of environmental change and its embeddedness in the long term interactions of social history and rainfall variability through the building of an environmental history of the Chibuene locality, the coastal plain of southern Mozambique, 5 km south of the town Vilanculos, from 400 AD to present day. Land-use practices over time are discussed on the basis of vegetation and land-use history based pollen analysis, charcoal influx and diatom analysis. LÄS MER
4. Isoconversional analysis for the prediction of mass-loss rates during pyrolysis of biomass
Sammanfattning : Biomass is the only renewable carbon source that can compete with fossil energy sources in terms of production of materials, chemicals and fuels. Biomass can be transformed into charcoal, liquid and gas through pyrolysis, i.e. pure thermal decomposition. LÄS MER
5. Islands tidiga bosättning : studier med utgångspunkt i merovingertida-vikingatida gårdslämningar i Herjólfsdalur, Vestmannaeyjar, Island
Sammanfattning : The date for the beginning of colonization of Iceland by settlers from Norway has generally been set at 872-874 A.D. Excavations at Herjólfsdalur on the Westman Islands, however, have shown that Norse settlement first occurred considerably earlier or in the Merovingian Period in the 7th century. LÄS MER
