16. Characterization of Raw Materials for Salt Extraction from Lake Katwe, Uganda
Sammanfattning : Uganda is well endowed with economic quantities of salt evident in the interstitial brines and evaporite deposits of Lake Katwe, a closed saline lake located in the western branch of the great East African rift valley. Currently, rudimentally methods of salt mining based on solar evaporation of brine continue to be used for salt extraction at the lake. LÄS MER
17. Measurement Techniques for Characterization of Power Amplifiers
Sammanfattning : In this thesis a sampling time domain measurement system primarily intended for measurements on radio frequency power amplifiers is discussed. The need for such a measurement system is established. Impairments due to non-ideal measurement instruments are discussed as well as methods to compensate for these impairments. LÄS MER
18. Multimodal and multiscale characterization of bone and bone interfaces in health and disease
Sammanfattning : Seeing is believing. Our understanding of phenomena often involves their direct observation. However, bone architecture is challenging to visualize given its multi-level hierarchical organization. LÄS MER
19. Characterization of PAH-contaminated soils focusing on availability, chemical composition and biological effects
Sammanfattning : The risks associated with a soil contaminated by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are generally assessed by measuring individual PAHs in the soil and correlating the obtained amounts to known adverse biological effects of the PAHs. The validity of such a risk estimation is dependent on the presence of additional compounds, the availability of the compounds (including the PAHs), and the methods used to correlate the measured chemical data and biological effects. 20. Nanoindentation characterization of high chromium white cast iron for assessment of machining performance
Sammanfattning : As modern production moves towards higher efficiency and cost effectiveness, machining difficult-to-cut materials becomes an increasing challenge. Quickly and reliably characterizing the properties of materials could significantly improve the performance of machining processes in terms of their efficiency and production cost. LÄS MER
