  1. 1. Transtructures : prototyping transitional practices for the design of postindustrial infrastructures

    Författare :Lorenzo Davoli; Johan Redström; Cameron Tonkinwise; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Infrastructures; transition design; postindustrial design; system design; drones; participation; design practices; automation; hacking; logistic; telecommunications; sustainable development; hållbar utveckling; design; design;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is about 'transtructures', a term coined to describe new kinds of infrastructures that are more attentive and responsive to the needs of contemporary society, its emerging economies and technological capabilities. The purpose of this inquiry is to begin to explore the character and possibilities of a design practice that could guide responsibly and ethically the transition of existing industrial infrastructures towards these new configurations: what processes it could follow, and what materials it could include. 2. 2. In conversation with simulation: The application of numerical simulation to the design of structural nodal connections

    Författare :Jens Olsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; 3D Printing; Design theory; Structural design; Structural efficiency; Simulation; Peridynamics; Force flux density; Nodal connections; Conceptual design; Steel structures; Design process; Digital design;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis explores methods for integration of structural analysis, design and production in a digital design environment. The somewhat ambiguous title implies the ambition to make such integration in relation to the explorative phase of the design process which is described by Donald Schön as having a conversational character. 3. 3. Creating space for action - Supporting behaviour change by making sustainable transport opportunities available in the world and in the mind

    Författare :Helena Strömberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; behaviour change; sustainable mobility; user-centred design; action space; travel behaviour; everyday transport;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the work presented in this thesis is to contribute to the knowledge of how to create conditions for individuals to change their travel behaviour in a more sustainable direction. Earlier studies point to potential contributions through exploration of the individual’s process of behaviour change, addressing the role of the design of the transport system, as well as investigating the potential effects of enabling structural interventions within the transport system. 4. 4. Attractiveness in Urban Design : A study of the production of attractive places

    Författare :Erik Hidman; Kristina L. Nilsson; Björn Ekelund; Anna-Johanna Klasander; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; attractiveness; urban design; urban critical studies; production of space; Architecture; Arkitektur;

    Sammanfattning : This research project investigates the production of attractive places, through theory form and everyday life. The research study was originally sprung from practical questions regarding the extensive use of the term attractiveness in urban planning and design. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Architects and users in collaborative design

    Författare :Johanna Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Co-design; Participatory design; Facilitator; Architect; Users; Collaborative design; Front-end activities;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACTThe custom of involving users in building projects has increased over the last years, following a focus on the importance of front-end activities, both in practice and in academia. This thesis explores user participatory design and more specifically the co-design process from the architect’s point of view. LÄS MER
