16. Reduced Receivers for Faster-than-Nyquist Signaling and General Linear Channels
Sammanfattning : Fast and reliable data transmission together with high bandwidth efficiency are important design aspects in a modern digital communication system. Many different approaches exist but in this thesis bandwidth efficiency is obtained by increasing the data transmission rate with the faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) framework while keeping a fixed power spectral density (PSD). 17. Modeling rating curves from close-range remote sensing data : Application of laser and acoustic ranging instruments for capturing stream channel topography
Sammanfattning : A rating curve provides a functional relationship between water height (i.e. stage) and discharge at a specified cross-section in a river. Used in combination with a time series of stage, rating curves become one of the central components for generating continuous records of streamflow. LÄS MER
18. Pipeline Analog-Digital Converters Dynamic Error Modeling for Calibration : Integral Nonlinearity Modeling, Pipeline ADC Calibration, Wireless Channel K-Factor Estimation
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the characterization, modeling and calibration of pipeline analog-digital converters (ADC)s. The integral nonlinearity (INL) is characterized, modeled and the model is used to design a post-correction block in order to compensate the imperfections of the ADC. LÄS MER
19. Modeling of voltage-gated ion channels
Sammanfattning : The recent determination of several crystal structures of voltage-gated ion channels has catalyzed computational efforts of studying these remarkable molecular machines that are able to conduct ions across biological membranes at extremely high rates without compromising the ion selectivity. Starting from the open crystal structures, we have studied the gating mechanism of these channels by molecular modeling techniques. LÄS MER
20. Coding Speech for Packet Networks
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is speech coding for packet networks. Problems related to the use of packet networks for voice communication are addressed. Real-time voice communication is for example very delay sensitive; if the total end-to-end delay in a telephone session grows large, it is perceived as annoying. LÄS MER
