1. Electroosmosis Based Treatment Approach for Cerebral Edema
Sammanfattning : Cerebral edema characterized as an abnormal accumulation of excess fluid in the intracellular or extracellular spaces has not been treated effectively despite aggressive treatments. As a result, cerebral edema often leads to intracranial pressure (ICP) elevation with potentially severe consequences unless treated effectively. LÄS MER
2. Telomeres and the brain : an investigation into the relationships of leukocyte telomere length with functional and structural attributes of the brain
Sammanfattning : Telomeres are the outermost parts of linear chromosomes. They consist of tandemly repeated non-coding short nucleotide sequences (TTAGGG in all vertebrates), in humans spanning over the last 2 to 15 kilobase pairs of the chromosome. Due to the end-replication problem, telomeres shorten with each cellular division. LÄS MER
3. Depression after stroke
Sammanfattning : Both stroke and depression are major health problems in the elderly. In this study, the prevalence of major depression after stroke was investigated in a well-defined sample of acute stroke patients (n=80), followed up at 3 months, 1 year, 2 and 3 years after the stroke event. Links to biological and psychosocial factors were examined. LÄS MER
4. Movement performance in elderly women. Relation to neuroimaging findings, medical conditions and activities of daily living
Sammanfattning : Aims: To study age-related changes of movement performance and their relation to cerebral white matter lesions, brain atrophy, obesity indices, serum lipids, medical conditions and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL).Methods: Study samples were part of the Prospective Population Study of Women and the Gerontological and Geriatric Population Studies (H 70) in Göteborg, Sweden. 5. Volumetric assessment of hippocampus and cerebral white matter lesions in structural MRI
Sammanfattning : Assessment in structural MRI like hippocampal volumetry and white matter lesion (WML) assessment is receiving widespread attention and recommen-dation as important research and diagnostic tools. The aim in this thesis is to contribute to enhanced reliability and validity in structural MRI assessment. LÄS MER
