1. LDI-MS strategies for analysis of polymer degradation products, additives and drugs
Sammanfattning : The advancement of mass spectrometry (MS) has been and continues to be a prominent analytical technique for highly accurate determination of analytes. The goal of this thesis was to develop new laser desorption ionization-mass spectrometric (LDI-MS) methods for analysis of polymer degradation products, additives and drugs. LÄS MER
2. Analysis of Degradation Products from Wood and Methods for Detoxification of Lignocellulose Hydrolysates
Sammanfattning : In order to produce fuel ethanol from lignocellulose, it is necessary to hydrolyse the sugar-containing constituents hemicellulose and cellulose. During acid hydrolysis, a number of compounds are formed or liberated in addition to the fermentable monomeric sugars. LÄS MER
3. Studies on the Effect of Concrete on the Chemistry in a Repository for Radioactive Waste
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, the disposal method for long-lived low- to intermediate-level radioactive waste is proposed to be the long-term storage of the waste in a concrete repository deep in a geological formation. The use of concrete and steel for the waste containment will affect the chemical conditions inside the repository and in the host rock. LÄS MER
4. Reactions in the System Nitro-cellulose/ Diphenylamine with Special Reference to the Formation of a Stabilizing Product Bonded to Nitro-cellulose
Sammanfattning : The methods HPLC, microcalorimetry and FTIR together with chemometry, provide good analytical tools to follow the degradation of nitro-cellulose.The degradation products formed from diphenylamine (DPA) during storage can be followed with HPLC. FTIR, together with chemometry, also gives the precision needed for safety control of propellants. LÄS MER
5. Some aspects on the effects of dissolved wood components in kraft pulping
Sammanfattning : During kraft cooking a significant part of the wood material, especially lignin and hemicelluloses, is degraded and dissolved in the cooking liquor, rendering a broad range of degradation products with different molecular mass and functional groups. The main part of this thesis has been devoted to clarify the role of these dissolved wood components (DWC) during kraft cooking. LÄS MER
