  1. 1. Cellular Dyes and Bioactive Peptides - Cell Membrane Interactions and Cellular Uptake

    Författare :Maria Matson Dzebo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane Interactions; Spectroscopy; Cell-Penetrating Peptides; Bioactive Peptides; Cell Membrane; Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy; Cellular Uptake; AF-16; Voltage-Sensitive Dyes; Cell Dyes; Antisecretory Factor; Ruthenium Complexes; Isothermal Titration Calorimetry; Flow-Cytometry;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge about mechanisms behind interactions of molecules with biomembranes and cellular uptake is very important for understanding biological processes and for drug design. The work described in this thesis has focused on interactions of cellular dyes and bioactive peptides with cells and the cell membrane. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Navigating the Cellular Crowd : Physicochemical Properties of Protein Surfaces as Evolved Interaction Guides

    Författare :Eloy Vallina Estrada; Mikael Oliveberg; Erik Lindahl; Gideon Schreiber; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein interactions; inteins; physicochemical properties; protein surfaces; evolution; cellular crowding; electrostatics; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : The cellular interior is characterised by high concentrations of macromolecules. Compared with dilute conditions, the crowd modifies proteins' ability to fold, diffuse and, ultimately, carry out their biological functions. Cellular fitness depends on ensuring an adequate balance between interactivity and diffusivity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Protein and Cell Interactions with Nanostructured Surfaces

    Författare :Emma Westas; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bacteria; titanium dioxide; implant associated infections; metabolomics; cellular interactions; hydroxyapatite; immune complement activation; silica; nanoparticles; photocatalysis; protein adsorption; Nanostructured implants;

    Sammanfattning : A great challenge of today’s implant development is to construct a surface that promotes tissue integration and avoids bacterial colonization. To avoid implant related infections, many argue that a surface promoting strong cell adhesion and tissue integration in favour for bacterial adhesion would solve the problem, the so-called race for the surface concept. 4. 4. Adenovirus-host interactions : implications for tropism and therapy

    Författare :Annasara Lenman; Niklas Arnberg; Lennart Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adenoviridae; Amino Acids; Antiviral Agents; Epithelial Cells; Factor IX;

    Sammanfattning : Human adenoviruses (HAdVs) are common viruses often associated withgastrointestinal, ocular and respiratory infections. They can infect a widevariety of cells, both dividing and non-dividing. HAdVs attach to and infecttarget cells through interactions with cellular receptors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Endothelial-leukocyte interactions

    Författare :Maria Olofsson; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Histology; endothelial cell; leukocyte; apoptosis; mitochondria; heparin binding protein; vascular permeability; E-selectin; migration; rolling; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes early inflammatory responses involving interactions between leukocytes and the endothelial lining of the blood vessel wall. An adhesion molecule, E-selectin, which is upregulated on interleukin-1 activated endothelium, was found to mediate rolling between leukocytes and endothelial cells in vivo. LÄS MER
