  1. 1. Immune defense reactions in freshwater crayfish : Cellular components

    Författare :Charlotta Ekblom; Irene Söderhäll; Kallaya Sritunyalucksana-Dangtip; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; crustaceans; hemocytes; immunity; crayfish; proteomics; transcriptomics; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The freshwater signal crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, is a well-established model for studying the immune system of invertebrates. Many important discoveries have been made in this species, among others related to the clotting reaction, hematopoiesis, the prophenoloxidase activating system, the functions of crustacean immune cells, and pathogen recognition. 2. 2. The role and mechanism of ubiquitin system in innate immune regulation

    Författare :Swarupa Panda; Nelson O. Gekara; Fredrik Elgh; Anna Överby; Geert van Loo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; The ubiquitin system; Deubiquitinase; MYSM1; Innate immune regulation Toll-like receptor; RIG-l like receptors; Cytoplasmic DNA receptors; NOD-like receptors; Francisella tularensis; Immune subversion; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) include the cell surface or endosomal membrane localized Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the cytoplasmic PRRs such as RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs) and cytoplasmic DNA receptors (CDRs). Triggering of PRRs culminates in the transcriptional induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I interferons (IFNs) that coordinate protection against pathogens but require tight control to avert inflammatory diseases. 3. 3. Ecology and evolution in a host-parasitoid system : Host search, immune responses and parasitoid virulence

    Författare :Lisa Fors; Peter Hambäck; Wertheim Bregje; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Host-parasitoid interactions; Plant-herbivore interactions; Host search; Volatiles; Pheromones; Geographic variation; Cellular defence; Melanisation; Encapsulation; Asecodes; Galerucella; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In host-parasitoid systems, there is a continuous coevolutionary arms race where each species imposes a strong selection pressure on the other. The host needs to develop defence strategies in order to escape parasitism and the parasitoid must evolve counter-defence strategies in order to overcome the host’s immune defence and successfully reproduce. 4. 4. The dynamic microfilament system : cellular organization of actin and profilin and their association with cell signalling

    Författare :Lucie Hájková; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoological Cell Biology; zoologisk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Active shape changes and movement of whole cells, and translocations within cells are essential to life. For instance, during embryogenesis cell migration is a central theme. Wound healing depends on increased and directed motile activity of several cell types. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Immune cells in pregnant uterine mucosa : functional properties, cellular composition and tissue organization

    Författare :Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Sten Hammarström; Rolf Kiessling; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunologically privileged site; TCR γδ cells; CD56 cells; large granular lymphocytes; immunosuppression; cytokine; interleukin; lymphoid cell cluster; intraepithelial lymphocytes; glandular epithelium; immuno electron microscopy; pregnancy; decidua; lactoferrin; lactoferrin receptor; colostrum;

    Sammanfattning : The pregnant uterus mucosa - decidua - is an "immunologically privileged" site. A semiallogeneic embryo is allowed to survive, develop, and grow while the same tissue implanted outside the uterus will be rejected. The decidua basalis, which participates in the placenta formation, is a tissue rich in lymphoid cells. LÄS MER
