  1. 11. Studies on Tissue Factor with Focus on Cell Signaling and Cancer

    Författare :Oskar Eriksson; Agneta Siegbahn; Lina Badimon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tissue Factor; blood coagulation; cell signaling; protease; mass spectrometry; immunohistochemistry; colorectal cancer; apoptosis; Eph receptor; Klinisk kemi; Clinical Chemistry; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis have explored the functions of the protein Tissue Factor (TF), which together with its ligand coagulation factor VII/VIIa (FVII/FVIIa) forms a proteolytic complex that functions in initiation of blood coagulation and activation of cell signaling.In paper I, the mechanisms behind the observation that TF/FVIIa signaling protects cells from apoptosis were further investigated. 2. 12. Exploring the tissue-specific nature of the Wnt cell signaling system : The complex world of cell communication and the search for the Achilles heel of cancer

    Författare :Simon Söderholm; Claudio Cantù; Mikael Benson; Stefan Hoppler; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wnt signaling; β-catenin; Development; Cancer; Stem cells; Omics; Bioinformatics;

    Sammanfattning : The Wnt signaling pathway is a biological mechanism for cell-cell communication found across all species of the animal kingdom. This pathway plays a major role in virtually all stages of embryonic development, and it governs central aspects of stem cell biology, regeneration, and tissue homeostasis. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Oscillatory Signaling and Insulin Secretion from Single ß-cells

    Författare :Olof Idevall Hagren; Anders Tengholm; Erik Gylfe; Leslie Satin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cAMP; Ca2 ; oscillations; beta-cell; insulin secretion; evanescent wave microscopy; PIP3; PKA; Epac; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : cAMP and Ca2+ are key regulators of exocytosis in many cells, including insulin-secreting pancreatic β-cells. Glucose-stimulated insulin secretion from β-cells is pulsatile and driven by oscillations of the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), but little is known about the kinetics of cAMP signaling and the mechanisms of cAMP action. 4. 14. Diversification of TGF-β Signaling in Homeostasis and Disease

    Författare :Michael Vanlandewijck; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Steven Dooley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-β; signaling; SIK; EMT; polarity; Notch; ALK5; p21; growth arrest; Smurf; Smad7; receptor; SNF1LK; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : With the dawn of metazoans, the ability of cells to communicate with each other became of paramount importance in maintaining tissue homeostasis. The transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) signaling pathway, which plays important roles during embryogenesis and in the adult organism, signals via a heterodimeric receptor complex consisting of two type II and two type I receptors. 5. 15. Biological consequences of endothelial cell signaling

    Författare :Ross Smith; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Przemyslaw Sapieha; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VEGFR2; Mechanosensing; Retinopathy; Biologi; Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Endothelial cells make up the inner lining of blood and lymphatic vessels, where they participate in functions vital to survival of the tissue; endothelial cells maintain vessel integrity, dynamically respond to the changing metabolic needs of tissues, and participate in many tissue-specific functions. Endothelial cells sense environmental cues which initiate signal transduction pathways that regulate behavior. LÄS MER
