21. Microfluidics Separation and Analysis of Biological Particles
Sammanfattning : In the last decade, powerful communication and information technology in the form of the mobile phone has been put into the hands of more than 50% of the global population. In stark contrast, a lack of access to medical diagnostic technology with which to diagnose both communicable and non-communicable diseases will mean that many of these people will die of easily treatable conditions. 22. Polymer Displacement and Supermacroporous Cryogels - Two New Tools in Chromatographic Separation of Biomolecules and Bioparticles
Sammanfattning : Production of protein is often accompanied with difficulties due to the large amounts of different biological material resulting from fermentation. This makes purification necessary and affinity chromatography is usually involved as being biospecific, although suffering from limitations as low recovery due to ineffective elution and inability to handle particulate materials. 23. Superabsorbent Polymers from the Cell Wall of Zygomycetes Fungi
Sammanfattning : The present thesis presents new renewable, antimicrobial and biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), produced from the cell wall of zygomycetes fungi. The cell wall was characterized and chitosan, being one of the most important ingredients, was extracted, purified, and converted to SAP for use in disposable personal care products designed for absorption of different body fluids. 24. The rise and fall of IgE
Sammanfattning : Immunoglobulin E (IgE) occurs exclusively in mammals and is one of five immunoglobulin (Ig) classes found in man. Unlike other isotypes, IgE is best known for its pathological effects, whereas its physiological role remains somewhat elusive. LÄS MER
25. Ribosomes and subunits from Escherichia coli studied by asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (FFF) separations of ribosomes and subunits have been studied. Ribosomal material was prepared from Escherichia coli (E. coli) cells and analyzed by the size separation technique. LÄS MER
