1. Stereotyped B Cell Receptors in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia : Implications for Antigen Selection in Leukemogenesis
Sammanfattning : Biased immunoglobulin heavy variable (IGHV) gene usage and distinctive B-cell receptor (BCR) features have been reported in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), which may reflect clonal selection by antigens during disease development. Furthermore, the IGHV gene mutation status distinguishes two clinical entities of CLL, where patients with unmutated IGHV genes have an inferior prognosis compared to those with mutated IGHV genes. 3. The eukaryotic ribosome in focus : a chemical footprinting analysis of ribosome-ligand interactions in in vivo assembled complexes
Sammanfattning : Protein synthesis is an essential biological process that occurs on ribosomes. The process requires an involvement of numerous components like mRNA, tRNA and translation factors. The mammalian 80S ribosome, the focus of this thesis, is composed of four rRNAs and approximately 80 proteins distributed in two subunits the 40S and 60S subunit. LÄS MER
4. Rule-Based Approaches for Large Biological Datasets Analysis : A Suite of Tools and Methods
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about new and improved computational methods to analyze complex biological data produced by advanced biotechnologies. Such data is not only very large but it also is characterized by very high numbers of features. LÄS MER
5. Immunoglobulin Gene Analysis in Different B cell Lymphomas : With Focus on Cellular Origin and Antigen Selection
Sammanfattning : B cell lymphoma (BCL) comprises a biologically and clinically heterogeneous group of tumors deriving from different stages of B cell development. The immunoglobulin (Ig) variable heavy chain (VH) gene rearrangement is unique for each BCL and can be used to reveal cellular origin, to study signs of antigen selection and to quantify tumor cell load.
