  1. 1. New Approaches to Studies of Paracellular Drug Transport in Intestinal Epithelial Cell Monolayers

    Författare :Staffan Tavelin; Per Artursson; Staffan Tavelin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; intestinal epithelium; tight junctions; cell culture; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Sammanfattning : Studies of intestinal drug permeability have traditionally been performed in the colon-derived Caco-2 cell model. However, the permeability of these cell monolayers resembles that of the colon rather than that of the small intestine, which is the major site of drug absorption following oral administration. 2. 2. Stem cells in the adult heart - 3D culture, isolation of side population cells and search for a stem cell niche

    Författare :Kristina Vukusic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart; cardiac stem cells; Stem cell niche; Atrioventricular junction; Side population; 3D culture;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiac tissue shows a poor regenerative capacity. From 2003 reports, mostly based on animal models, have showed existence of stem cells also in the heart. Using 14C measurements, a slow but steady turnover of the cardiac cells was shown in humans, around 1%/year. As a source for this regeneration endogenous stem cells have been suggested. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mechanisms for and Effects of Airway Epithelial Damage in Asthma

    Författare :Anne-Jacqueline Relova; Eythor Björnsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; asthma; airways; cytokines; epithelium; tight junctions; mast cells; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The airway epithelium plays a crucial role in protecting the underlying connective tissue (CT) from noxious agents. Damage and shedding of the epithelium are observed in the airways of asthma, cystic fibrosis and rhinitis patients. LÄS MER

  4. 4. RhoGTPase Signaling in Cell Polarity and Gene Regulation

    Författare :Ann-Sofi Johansson; Pontus Aspenström; Johan Lennartsson; Christer Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; RhoGTPase; Par6; cell polarity; aPKC; epithelial cell; PDGF; gene regulation; microarray; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : RhoGTPases are proteins working as molecular switches as they bind and hydrolyze GTP. They are in their active conformation when GTP is bound and are then able to interact with their effector proteins, which relay the downstream signaling. When the GTP is hydrolyzed to GDP, the RhoGTPase is inactivated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Role of Paladin in Endothelial Cell Signaling and Angiogenesis

    Författare :Anja Nitzsche; Mats Hellström; Frank-Dietmar Böhmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pald1; endothelium; lung; vascular permeability; phosphatase; angiogenesis; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from a pre-existing vasculature, is crucial during development and for many diseases including cancer. Despite tremendous progress in the understanding of the angiogenic process, many aspects are still not fully elucidated. LÄS MER
