  1. 6. The effects of growth hormone on opioid-induced toxicity in vitro

    Författare :Erik Nylander; Mathias Hallberg; Alexis Bailey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; opioids; methadone; morphine; ketobemidone; fentanyl; oxycodone; hydromorphone; insulin-like growth factor; cell viability; NG108-15; SH-SY5Y; hippocampus; cortex; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : There is an ongoing opioid crisis in the United States that is portrayed by a large number of opioid-related deaths. Many of these cases involve commonly used prescription opioids, such as morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, and methadone. This is concerning and highlights the problems associated with long-term opioid treatment. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Sugar-modulated gene expression and cell division in cell culture and seedlings of A. thaliana

    Författare :Sabine Kunz; Leszek A. Kleczkowski; Alison Smith; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; carbohydrates; cell culture; cell division; gene expression; homeostasis; live cell imaging; sugar-signals; sugar-analogues; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : Throughout their life cycle, plants adjust growth in response to their developmental and environmental situation within the limits of their energetic capacities. This capacity is defined by the local sugar availability, which is constantly modulated through synthesis, transport and consumption of sugar. LÄS MER

  3. 8. TGF-beta signaling in cancer

    Författare :Erik Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TGF-β; proliferation; cancer; tumor suppressor; diffuse-type gastric carcinoma; neuroblastoma; nuclear receptor TLX; cancer stem cell; angiogenesis; ABCG2; VHL; HIF2α; hypoxia; Smad3;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming Growth Factor Beta (TGF-β) is a cytokine regulating a wide range of cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, and migration. At the early stages of cancer development TGF-β functions as a tumor suppressor, mainly due to its inhibitory effect on cellular growth, but during cancer progression, mutations in TGF-β signal components switches TGF-β into a promoter of cancer cell proliferation, survival and metastasis. 4. 9. Protein tyrosine kinases in insulin producing cells : Expression and putative importance for beta-cell function

    Författare :Charlotte Öberg-Welsh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Protein tyrosine kinase; insulin producing cells; fetal development; VEGF; Src-family; Bsk; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Protein tyrosine kinases are of importance for cell replication and differentiation in manysystems. The mechanisms controlling the replication and differentiation of insulin producingcells are unknown. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Heparan sulfate dependent cell signaling and associated pathophysiology : Implications in tumorigenesis and embryogenesis

    Författare :Tahira Batool; Jin-Ping Li; Aristidis Moustakas; Liliana Schaefer; Ingvar Ferby; Michael Welsh; Anders Malmström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heparanase; Glucuronyl-C5 epimerase; Heparan Sulfate; Heparin; Lung Cancer; Cancer cell Singling; TGF-Beta; BMP; VEGF; Notch Signaling; Tumor growth; Metastasis; embryonic development; Medical Biochemistry; Medicinsk biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) consist of a protein core to which several linear, negatively charged heparan sulfate (HS) chains are covalently attached. HSPGs are expressed on the cell surface and in the extra-cellular matrix (ECM) where they have diverse biological functions, for example co-receptor functions. LÄS MER
