6. Role of DARPP-32 in Breast Cancer Cell Signalling and Migration
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. While the prognosis for breast cancer patients without local or distal dissemination is relatively favorable, the prognosis is considerably worse once distal metastasis has been established. LÄS MER
7. Photoreceptors in experimental retinal cell transplants
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to investigate the fate of photoreceptor cells when using different strategies for retinal cell transplantation. Comparing transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina with cell suspensions of the same tissue we found that transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina result in mature transplants with a higher degree of cellular organization than transplantation of cell suspensions of embryonic retina. 8. Fundamental Aspects on the Re-use of Wood Based Fibres : Porous Structure of Fibres and Ink Detachment
Sammanfattning : In this work, different aspects on the re-use of wood based fibres have been studied, focusing on ink detachment of flexographic ink from model cellulose surfaces and changes in porous structure of kraft fibres following different treatments. New model systems for evaluation of ink detachment and ink-cellulose interactions were used. LÄS MER
9. Regulation of eukaryotic cell physiology using organic bioelectronics
Sammanfattning : The field of organic bioelectronics deals with the implementation of conducting polymer science in biology and medicine. The purpose of this thesis was to develop organic bioelectronic devices for the regulation of eukaryotic cell physiology. LÄS MER
10. Retinal tumorigenesis and neurodegeneration : strategies to promote tumor cell death and support retinal cell survival to preserve vision
Sammanfattning : Our vision is central to our quality of life enabling us to interact with our environment and lead productive lives. The ability to see begins in the retina, one of the paramount features of the eye, as it takes on the task of converting light signals to nerve impulses that are relayed to the visual centers of the brain.
