1. Concentrated DNA-amphiphiles Structure, Hydration, and Dynamics
Sammanfattning : The structure, hydration, and dynamics of concentrated DNA-amphiphile complexes were investigated by small-angle X-ray diffraction, sorption calorimetry, and nuclear magnetic resonance. A concentrated, electroneutral, DNA-amphiphile complex can be formed by mixing charge-stoichiometric solutions. LÄS MER
2. Adsorption and Self-Assembly of Cationic Surfactants at Silica Surfaces
Sammanfattning : The equilibrium self-assembly of cationic surfactants in bulk solution and at negatively-charged silica substrates is investigated experimentally and theoretically. The surfactants used are quaternary ammonium salts, both monovalent (DoTAB, TTAB, CTAB) and divalent (DoPPDAC). LÄS MER
3. Synthesis of Tetrahydrofuran and Pyrrolidine Derivatives Utilising Radical Reactions : Organochalcogenides in Reductive, Carbonylative and Group-Transfer Cyclisation
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes free-radical reactions for the construction of tetrahydrofuran and pyrrolidine derivatives. The studies are concerned with (i) diastereoselectivity in radical cyclisation, (ii) construction of tetrahydrofuran-3-ones and pyrrolidin-3-ones via radical carbonylation/cyclisation and (iii) synthesis of tetrahydrofuran derivatives via group-transfer cyclisation of organochalcogen compounds. 4. Targeting Biological Systems by Organic Synthesis Methods - Cancer Cells and Proteins
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the design and synthesis of molecules with potential roles in biomedicine, with an emphasis on molecular recognition in complex biological environments. The first chapter describes the synthesis and evaluation of compounds for use in nuclide therapy. LÄS MER
5. Asymmetrical Flow Field-Flow Fractionation in the Application to Biological Macromolecules
Sammanfattning : Asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AsFlFFF) is especially useful in the application to biological macromolecules due to the absence of a stationary phase in the separation channel. As a result no upper exclusion limit occurs and low shear forces affect the sample components. LÄS MER
